For the above application should I have gotten a 7427 out of a vehicle with a specific size engine or does it matter ?

ECM vs. displacement doesn't not really matter. However proper memcal for cylinder count and knock module does make some difference. For your application one from a 4.3V6 TBI/CPI would probably work well.

That will get you going. Lots of reading, don't be afriad to click on stuff in TunerPro and look around. Just don't save files unless you really want to! One rule of thumb to remember is always have backup files.
What Greg is saying is inside the 16197427 PCM there is a Memcal. On the memcal is the chip with bin file you tune, then there's a netres chip and a knock module. You can tune a chip but you can't tune a netres or knock module they should come from like engine.

Well can I open the ecm and confrim which engine it fits? Is it cheaper to buy the non tunable part without scrounging the wrecking yard or buy another ecm [$40] for a 4.3 engine?
Don't even really need to open the PCM except to make sure the BCC on the memcal matches the the tag on the outside of the PCM.

Thanks that's really handy,I confirmed that the 7427 is for a 5.7 engine but was surprised to find the 8062 was for a 2.8,I have stripped more than a few S10 in my day it gets confusing if you don't mark stuff.
