Gathering info for '93 L32 swap into '76 MG Midget

Hello again, everyone! My buddy just picked up a running '93 Camaro EDIT: 1994 with the 3.4L and T5 trans. We're going to stuff it into his '76 MG Midget. The '93 seems to be a strange year as far as programming goes. I found a USB to TTL level com cable. What I have figured out so far is that it looks like I can wire up the TXD/RXD lines to pin M, and the ground line to ground on the diag port. This MIGHT give me a connection to the ECU/ECM. I was also considering getting a eeprom reader/writer and doing the chip directly.

Anyone have any pointers or traps for new gamers to avoid?

Pic of my '78 drag car for attention:

Download TunerproRT and get a kit like this and you should be ready to roll with datalogging and chip burning...

I already have TunerPro for messing with the LQ9. I was going to get a chinesium T48 eeprom reader/programmer.

16196397 is Flash, so NO PROMS

Duly noted. No proms. I wonder if it’s not a ‘93. I’ll double check the VIN.

Ordered a TTL level serial cable and bought a copy of TunerPro RT. Since I'll be using it with both cars, might as well throw the dude some money for making some pretty slick software.

Dave, I downloaded the bin files you linked. I'll hang onto those. Thank you.

To add some weirdness, there's two part numbers on the ECU. I've attached the picture. And I've found a few different bin files for the second number. 16203291. Still waiting for the update on the VIN. I'll update this if it comes back as a '94 VIN.

I’m thinking it’s NOT going to be an issue whether it’s 1993 or 1994 model F-Body. The computer is supported by TunerCats, TunerPro, and Flash Hack.

I’m thinking the next step is coming up to speed with data logging a running engine and reading / writing .bin files from or to the computer.

I emailed TunerCat and he specifically said ‘93 is unsupported.

Which PCM number, or either, should I use? I’ve loaded up a bin from the second and started looking around and playing with that. Also have a line on a couple of PCMs on eBay so I can mess around with it at home.

I think the computer part number supersedes the make / model / year.

    From the Flash Hack website:
    V6 P66 1993-1995

    3100 and 3.4L engines. Should work with 16172693, 16184164, 16184737, 16196397.

The owner of Flash Hack is also a gearhead-member (Steveo)

    Flash Hack is freeware.

    TunerCats is not freeware.

Checked the VIN. It's a '94. Explains the later PCM number. Started playing with stuff, including FlashHack.
