Hey everyone,
I’m new to tuning and looking to learn more, especially with later-model vehicles. I’m trying to get a handle on the basics like tuning software and how everything works together!

OBD2
What’s the best way to get started with tunerpro? Should I go to the junkyard and grab a scrap pcm or practice on my daily stock 96 GMC Jimmy 4.3?

The 1996 GMC Jimmy 4.3 Black Box computer is not supported by TunerPro.
Often the Black Box computer is upgraded to the 12200411 computer. The 12200411 computer is supported by TunerPro and PCMHammer.

I fat fingered that it’s a 98 Jimmy…![]()
Good News / Bad News for the 98 Jimmy:
Bad News: TunerPro does not support the 1998 4.3 Jimmy.
Good News: HP Tuner supports the 1998 Jimmy. https://www.hptuners.com/vehicles/gm-tuning/

Awesome! So I just need to find a new computer, should I build a bench harness and practice in my garage first before putting it in the truck?
That’s a good question, depends on the desired results.
HP Tuners will provide good results tuning the 98 black box computer.
Upgrading the Jimmy to the 12200411 PCM isn’t the “Easy” or “Budget” option.
A test bench for learning TunerPro and PCMHammer is a good plan before upgrading the Jimmy to the 12200411 computer.
I recommend getting a 12200411 with the connectors and wiring.
My goal is to tune 100% based on budget. I would like to avoid HP tuner at all cost lol I understand that easy doesn’t come along with that. I’ll start working on getting my hands on a 12200411
I pulled a 12200411 out of the salvage yard and built a bench harness. What should I do next to upgrade my Jimmy?
One possible next step would be to flash the 12200411 computer with a 4.3 flash, without VATS.
Another is possible next step is to private message gearhead-EFI member Lextech for a wiring diagram to re-wire the black box computer connectors for the 12200411 computer connectors, it’s money well spent.
Well I have hit a snag I was trying to just try and see if I could get the hang of tunerpro and pcm hammer. I wanted to do a VATS and O2 delete on this PCM, simple enough right?
I have the most recent download of Tunerpro and pcm hammer
It is a 12200411 PCM OS ID 12216125 Calibration ID 12216121 Hardware ID 9386530 out of a 2002 suburban 4x4 5.3 L59
I am receiving a checksum when I go to save the bin.
I have downloaded multiple different plugins po1, p59, ls1, from 2-5 years ago with no avail. Can you point me in the right direction.
