    EBL XDF Question

I have a question, maybe someone can answer it..

The EBL P4 comes with (2) "XDF" files..

1 is a normal type "XDF"...

The 2nd XDF is a "ADVANCED" version of the first, with the full options etc that really opens up the P4 and it's true powerful capabilities..

    Here is the question..

If you use the "LESSER/LESS OPTION" XDF, does that mean that the options etc the advanced version has is open and being used by the P4, it's just that you aren't seeing those options, the computer is still going off of them etc?

    Is that thinking correct?

It's just the lesser XDF file doesn't show those options, even though they are still there and the computer takes them into account on the settings etc.

    Get what i mean?!?

so your question is if you use different XDFS on the same bin file does that mean the features available on the bin file change?
no they don't. the xdf is just a map of tables constants and switches. having more or less of them doesn't directly change how the bin works

No.. What i am asking is, the "MORE OPTIONS" that are in the advanced XDF, are those used by the computer but just not shown with the normal less open XDF?!?

So there could be a setting that is off in the advanced XDF, but when i use the lesser option XDF i don't know about it, but the computer still takes it into account etc whether i knew about it or not.

Like the more option XDF lets me see it and edit it, and it's used by the computer whether i see it in the more advanced XDF or not with the less

i think I just answered this but yes everything in the bin is used by the computer regardless of what xdf you're using to edit it

Steveo answered your question in his first reply, you just didn't understand the answer. Let me give it a shot.

Your BIN file is the actual program that your PCM uses. It has all of the data that your car requires to run in it. It's the whole program.

An XDF file is a translator. It is not a program at all. That's why it's so much smaller than your BIN file is. There's no code in the XDF. It's not an operating system. It's literally just a translator that tells TunerPro how to interpret the BIN file. The contents of the BIN file don't change structure depending on which XDF you are using. Which XDF you are using just determines what parts of the existing code will be readable for you. The parts that aren't readable are all still there, still doing their jobs, they just don't have nice human-readable names and tables and buttons and all that.

Hopefully that gets it across. XDF is just a dictionary. Changing XDFs doesn't change your BIN. It just changes how you, the squishy human behind the keyboard, can interact with the BIN.

That is what i thought.. Just making sure i understood what he was saying...

I been chasing this weird stalling issue, only happens in idle, in gear... I been racking my brain and racking my brain, sensors don't show anything, logs are perfect, no errors or codes thrown at all, just sputters for no reason and quits.. Put it in P/N fires right back up on first key hit and will idle, rev, or do whatever you want until the tank is empty... Just does it at idle in gear.. Crazy...

Almost like something is triggering it or it's losing connection etc...

So it dawned on me after going over every single option and table etc in the BIN i was working with using the simple XDF, that there is a more "EXPANDED" menu in the advanced XDF, and maybe what was causing my issue was a setting in that is only changeable or even viewable in the advanced XDF, even though i am not seeing it due to using the lesser XDF option list, it's still possibly causing the issue.....

We will see i suppose.. Hopefully i got it figured out...

    Thank you!

Throwing no codes and nothing showing up on the sensors makes me think it has nothing to do with the BIN and something to do with a physical, mechanical problem. Not everything is the fault of the computer just because there's a computer in the loop. At the end of the day, you're still driving a bunch of machinery.

    Best of luck!

I been talking with "RBOB" who is a"STEELY EYED MISSLE MAN" on the EBL as it's creator..

Think he figured it out with that High MAP signal deal. So weird as to how it just "DROPS" out after it hits, even for a split second. Not setting a check engine light or anything. Weird.

Anyways.. Have any of you logged with tunerpro with a ebl?

I found it so easy with the factory 7730 for histogram tables.. Once i get this new hellcat pump in i wanna do the final tweaking on it. Just curious if any of you ever did both at the same time?!?

EBL documentation specifically states "do not publicly post or publicly share EBL Information on forms like this gearhead-efi form" which is a fair request.

I suppose an email attachment is OK because the information is not publicly shared.

Send me a PM with an email address a .xdf can be attached to.
