I have a friend with an 88 Silverado with a 5.7. The truck is real sluggish during cranking and I've offered to check his timing for him. I know through experience with my 89 4.3 to disconnect the EST wire, but I'm not sure if his base timing should be at 0° with EST disconnected. I've searched the forum and didn't find anything, a quick google search did provide a 0° recommendation, but I'm more comfortable getting the info from this forum. Also, one Google result mentioned disconnecting the vacuum line from the distributor and plugging the leak while setting the timing. My 4.3 doesn't have any vaccuum to the distributor. I haven't yet seen under his hood, so idk if he's got any vacuum advance. Any information is welcome. Thanks!
