Well, my son just about got the tranny out of the wife's Blazer when he found the problem. He thought I put the bolts in the torque converter and I thought he did it. End result, no bolts in the torque convert. Putting it back together tomorrow. Now to make sure the P0300 codes get taken care of. I have two dizzys and I will get a new cap and rotor. Also the year old gas will get pumped out and fresh gas put in.
It was mis-firing on all 6 cyl.

At least it's an easy fix, yank starter and install bolts lol.
I've started the impala at least 4-5 times without convertor bolted to isolate trans from engine for diag.
Shouldn't cause any issues or damage.

Well, the wife's blazer is home after almost a year. Now I can start working on my truck. Fixed the misfire. We changed the distributor.

That's for sure, my wife is very happy. Me too, my truck needs some care. Unfortunately, we will have to use it a lot this summer, as we are moving all of our stuff out of our other house. That's good, because I have an agreement in principle to sell it to my neighbor. He doesn't want someone buying the place that he doesn't know. He has known me for all my life, so it is sort of like staying in the family.

Transmissions don't just fail while a vehicle's sitting. If it worked when the engine came out then it should work now. Have faith in that. Something else was missed. Filter not installed properly, incorrect level on dipstick, torque converter not installed right, something simple. Maybe you just forgot the flex plate bolts?

Yep, you were correct. I can't believe we didn't check it. Oh well, lesson learned. It runs so well, I can't believe it. It is having to do a complete relearn on the fueling side, so my fuel economy will suffer for a while. The cam/crank relearn worked just fine, so that is done. I will have to replace the heater core, but that can wait until fall.

Honestly, I'm very happy to hear it was just the bolts. Believe me, I've made my share of stupid errors over the years. It wasn't that long ago I was considering a career as a pushrod stress tester because I failed to remove a set of valve spring dampers.

The fuel learn shouldn't take too long. A week should be more than enough. Trans learn can take a little longer but still should be done within a week of daily driving.

When it comes time for the heater core, check the aftermarket replacements closely. IME the tubes are not bent properly and will rub on the steel firewall or the plastic heater box causing premature failure. Despite the extra cost I get Delco replacements whenever possible for this application.

Thanks for the heads up. Rock Auto carries the ACDelco part, so I will just go there.
