Along with mental illness, depression is one of those things that Americans don't seem to want to talk about. The worst thing when you are depressed is to be alone. It's much more common than one might think.

My condolences go out to his family.

    What a week!!!

It started Sat. when my son and I pulled the pump out of the well for the 3rd time (1st time, old pump died, 2nd time because the well wasn't as deep as I thought) because we are out of water. The well has silted in to the point that it can't recover very fast. While we were pulling it, my son got something in his eye. He just thought it was some dust and didn't think anything about it. Fast forward to yesterday when he had trouble driving home because of blurred vision and pain. (yes we tried to get him to go to dr Mon Morn. So this morning I took him to immediate care where they discovered he had a piece of metal embedded in his eye right next to his pupil. No wonder it hurt. They couldn't get it out and he ended up at an ophthalmologist to get it removed. We took my truck so my wife could go to work at her regular time. I had to run over to the school for a quick meeting and she wasn't there, so I called. Her Blazer had a dead battery. Then she tried my son's 4-runner. It had a dead battery. It's a manual so she tried to bump start it by rolling down the driveway. That didn't work. Next she finds the battery charger and decides to charge the battery in her Blazer. The hood won't open. I'm glad I wasn't home, because the air around here was blue flames. When we got home my son got his 4-runner started and I managed to get the Blazer hood open and jump started the Blazer so other than my son's sore eye, things are sort of back to normal around here, but I could use a little less excitement.

LOL! that reminded me of my 55 chevy PU. I broke down in SF on the way to LA and my dad had to come and get the truck while I continued on to school. He grumbled about there being nothing wrong with the truck, it was all in my head, etc. Well, he ended up having to have it towed. The next vacation I had, we pulled the pan off and there was a piston in the pan. We just ran a hone through it and stuck a new piston in it and I drove it for another 2 years before selling it (stupid move on my part).

Trying to find an old article. Really old. It was a novelty article, written like a product review, in Car Craft or Hot Rod or...? The author keeps putting one manufacturer's miracle part after another miracle part into his car, fully expecting them to be worthless but each time being surprised by better power and performance, until he achieves some crazy numbers. He decides to install one last part which ultimately melts the engine down and ruins the car. When he reads the fine print on the packaging, it says that one part is not compatible with any other parts by the same company and they won't cover any damage it causes. Anyone remember this? Anyone?

In trade for this valuable information which will be used to put a nagging memory to rest, I offer the following:
    Say Bye to Neon

Cool. I think John DeArmond (Neon John) posted some articles about this in the '90s. I might have copies around if interested.
