I'm going to be swapping an L59 and 4L60E from a 2005 GMC Yukon XL that has 148K into my '89 K1500 in the months to come. I bought the entire Yukon for cheap so I'll have most everything I need for the swap. The '89 has a wore out 5.7L TBI with 305K on the clock (but still runs and drives) so this will be a nice upgrade to the TBI engine.
I've learned a great deal from this site already and look forward to doing the preliminary stuff myself (VATS delete, etc.).
