    7747 to 7427 question

Looking at this ECU swap and have a question. I read the threads and didn't see this specifically. Using TunerPro RT, can the program from the 7747 be easily put into the 7427? I'm working through my current tuning issues and I'd hate to have to start over or manually input a new tune.

    Thanks

You can cut and paste the spark tables and VE, unfortunately they don't line up nicely so you need to extrapolate some of the values in the cells. The PCM processes 50x faster than the ECM so dialing in your tune comes in much quicker.

What transmission are you using? If I remember right you have issues with the current engine combination? For a beginning tuner this might be a daunting task doing the swap and already have unsolved problems?

I've been successful with several '7747 to '7427 upgrades. One of my tips for a successful upgrade, is to start with a baseline 16197427 .bin file that closely matches the engine / trans combination of the '7747. Sometimes it's not easy to find a close match, which makes it challenging to build a custom .bin file.

NV4500. Not really a beginning tuner...I've worked a lot with FAST and Megasquirt. Just new to this factory GM stuff. This swap would be later. Plan is to get it all running good with the 7747, then I have a few other projects to tackle, then I can park the truck and take my time on the ECU swap...if I decide to keep the 454 in it. At that time it would get the L29 heads, a cam, and most likely the L29 port injected intake.

I did a cursory search for a 7.4/manual/4.10 BIN today. Not much luck. Reading that GM liked to keep the 7747 ECU for the manual trucks. But again, this is for something way down the road.

94 and 95 should have been the 7427 for that application as the 454 had a linear EGR valve by that time and that is not compatible with the 7747.

How about an EBL Flash-II? It hooks right up to your 7747 connectors and, since you have a manual trans, no issue there.

    http://www.gearhead-efi.com/Fuel-Inj...Information-OE

    BHDC-$OE-7.4L-Manual.BIN

"Google Information" and gearhiead-efi.com information strongly suggests the 16196395 and 16197427 are "electronically" identical.

Some of the 395s lack the signal buffering circuits for the 4L80E input speed sensor but that is not an issue for a manual trans unless one wants to run MAF OD.

I would pose the same question - could an existing BIN for a 7747 be (relatively) easily moved to the EBL? Or is that just a lot of manual entry?

Kinda sorta, the EBL has expanded tables so, you could make a spreadsheet with its tables and fill in the rest by averaging or smoothing the blank cells. Then go out and VE learn to dial it in. The CD that comes with the EBL has some base calibrations you can start with and then, fine tune them.

Here's a thread dedicated to the EBL, 98 pages and still going, ha ha. HTH
