Help! Unable to datalog since Installing socket onto PCM.

    Hey all,

Me again, sorry for flooding with posts but I'm trying to get to the bottom of all of this.

Since I've put a socket onto my PCM (so I can use a socketbooster and ostrich 2.0) I'm not able to connect to my PCM to datalog. Obviously I've reinserted the standard chip, to check everythings good. I have an android tablet that's hooked up to a 1320 ALDL bluetooth adapter, worked perfectly before this, for over a year. But now it seems to connect to the bluetooth device but not capture any data from the PCM.

The van starts and runs, but not well, it was running perfectly before using the standard chip.

The van runs on the Ostrich 2.0, but again, not particularly well. Problem is, now I can't view any data logs to find out WTF is going on?!

Is it possible I could have damaged my original chip some how? Any ideas at all?

Also, the Check Engine Light seems to stay on, I've tried jumping pins A&B and switching to run, but it just stays on.

Again sorry for all the posts. I'm learning.

**Upon further investigation, I've discovered the van will run without a chip in the PCM. It appears to be running the same with a chip or the ostrich 2.0 or without, so.... is it fucked?

It sounds as if the "chip" file isn't seen at all and is running on the backup chips(netres) since you have no data and the light is on solid. If the eprom file is bad/corrupt the check engine light will flash rapidly because it fails the checksum check on key on. CEL on briefly then off briefly then on solid before starting is the sign it passed the eprom checksum validation.

Right, so I don't think it's actually recognising anything in the board. Either the chip or the Ostrich. I've just gone through and checked the soldering (I paid someone to do it) and two pins next to each other are shorted out. Is this a mistake? Or should they be connected?

The way they look on the tracks, the look like they shouldn't be joined?

Pulled unmolested '7747 off the shelf and meter set on continuity, on initial probe numbers on the meter jump around then goes open audible chime never chirps. Meter set at 20k I get the same behavior on the readout. Meter set on 200k, there is resistance on the meter. Pardon me but what are those yellow wires for? Have you tried making on the fly changes w ostrich and with that said, is the checksum disabled?

The wires are because there are a couple of damaged tracks on the board. Which doesn't help matters.

I'm not having much luck with this man. And to help matters further, I'm based in the UK so can't just pop down a junk yard.

I've put some feelers out and hopefully will get a new board soon. Bypassing all this bullshit hopefully.

OIC, yanno I have a ECM with similar questionable tracks but passed all continuity checks. While installed in a vehicle it appeared to run fine on tuning days. Once released back on the road, it had random intermittent fits of misfires and bad hesitation then would run like normal. I've never verified that was the problem bc we upped the ante to a '427 PCM. I've always contemplated on repairing that ECM by soldering in another board from a donor ECM but why ruin a known working ECM. Soooo...I've always wanted to ask, Dynamic EFI <click> when a ECM is modified with EBL, that very circuit board is removed. I wonder if Dynamic EFI would have any of the boards laying around that he may be willing to sell.

So I put my meter across those pins, and it tones instantly. Not a good sign I guess. This is a 299 ECM. But I guess they're pretty similar?

can you not just swap a 747 or 746 in place of a 299? i used to have a pile of them, I sold a bunch to dave W many years ago. I think i might still have a spare 746 if you are interested? i will have to check.

I'm in the UK, so just swapping them isn't quite as easy for me. There's a guy in the UK who specialises in Chevy Vans, I've asked him what he's got, but still waiting on a reply.

299 to 747 is direct swap which ive done w bros '92 FSC. The '746 is direct swap but does have extra wires for IAT which i have no experiece with.

You are correct, they should not be shorted together. Remove the short and see if that does the trick.
