    ALDLDroid for datalogging and dashboard

i recently entered into the tuning arena by putting a 4.3tbi chevy into a geo tracker off road toy.

i was steered in the right direction given great help by Dave W on what i needed to buy and how i needed to utilize those items to tune my toy and troubleshoot it.

i had originally purchased the obdi to usb cable from ebay and it worked, but i then discovered i would need more hardware to be able to program the ecu for my toy.
i ended up buying the moates autoprom, great piece of hardware! and i opted for the kit where you get a few chips to program as well as an adapter for my ecu.
this came with tunerproRT license and really opened my eyes to what was able to be edited and tuned!

so after i installed the wide-band o2 sensor to be able to properly tune, i realized i would be unable to do any logs while driving around due to the vehicle being an off road vehicle and me not having someone to hold the laptop to keep it from bouncing around.

i did some idle logging, but none of it in normal operation. so i got to researching what to use to datalog more easily.

after some research, i bought aldldroid from the play store to be able to see what was going on with my off road toy and to log the engine with my phone or tablet.

it uses the same files that tunerproRT uses, and is compatible with TunerproRT. when you log with it, it saves the information as a csv file as well as the standard log file that tunerpro uses.
you can load the log up in tunerpro and play it to see what was going on while you were driving around, and you can feed the csv to the WBO2 excel spreadsheet that Dave W developed to help tune the engine.

the cables that work with tunerproRT will work with the tablet/phone with an adapter. the only issue is that the phone or tablet becomes the power supply for the cable. this tends to shorten the battery life while logging.

i reached out to 3400tZ (author of ALDLDroid) on facebook and he provided some insight on powering the phone and adapter from an external source!

for a samsung, there are adapters that allow you to charge the phone/tablet while data logging and the cable is powered from the charger.

the beauty of this is that you can use the phone/tablet as a dash board when you arent using it for logging!
speedometer, tach, pretty much everything that tunerpro shows on the dash can be set up on ALDLDroid.

in short, you can read codes, reset codes, data log, and use as a dashboard.
for me this is worth the price of the app.

if any of you guys try it out with different phones/tablets please post your experiences (if the listed charger works with your brand of phone or tablet to charge and aldldroid to work)

full disclosure: i am in no way affiliated with any of the hardware or software listed other than i am a satisfied user of them!

some of the links that were greatly helpful to me with the above post are a s follows:

this one is a long read!

these can be used to make your own cables, and at this price they can be permanently installed making it so that all you need is a usb cable to connect!
