    Thanks looking into this Steveo.

My latency is set at 3ms. I ran the same cases using 1 ms and 16 ms and got the same results. I also tried the two comm speed configuration options with no difference.
I ran the test you suggested - if I create the hang condition, then exit and restart flashhack it still can't connect and I get more of the same errors.
If I then cycle ignition power, everything works fine until I perform a vin/calid change or 'close-interface' again.
I even shutdown flashhack and pulled the usb, then replugged in and restarted flashhack all while keeping PCM powered up - no difference.

It seems to have something to do with the 'close-interface' command in the context of these operations and/or the subsequent reconnect. I went back to b0.5.9 which didn't close the interface after a vin/calid change, and they worked, just as b0.6.3 does after loading and unloading the kernel without manually closing the interface. Hit 'close-interface' after any of these operations however and the same errors appear and need to cycle PCM power.

Glad to help if there is something else you'd like me to try to get better insight into what's happening.

The problem can be in vin change. Since the pcm gets unlocked and than if any mode 5 is send the pcm will take it and likely crash and will need reset to wake up.

Ran some additional tests on the connection error I was getting after vin/calid/close-interface commands on F-body.

I wanted to try to see what bus traffic flashhack was dealing with when it couldn't reconnect, so ...

I launched flashhack and wrote a calid which as expected created the error scenario. Past efforts required ignition power cycle to recover.
Instead of cycling ignition power, I hotswapped to eehack, keeping the ignition power to the PCM and other modules.
Tried to connect through eehack - it complained about the noisy bus etc similar to flashhack, but it didn't give up as flashhack did, and successfully connected.
Once connected, eehack behaved normally, and I used eehack to change the calid - eehack had no problems and no issues with subsequent disconnects/reconnects.
I then hotswapped back to flashhack, and it reconnected with no problems and behaved as if nothing had happened.
Until I changed the calid in flashhack again, of course ...

I also went back and confirmed that the problem does not occur on B-body (9C1).

I hope the above helps in tracking this down, and glad to continue to help.

Sorry that the bench is down, Steveo - perhaps the attached will provide some insight in the meantime.

I went back to try to catch what might be happening on the bus when flashhack can't reconnect.
Once I changed the calid and flashhack couldn't reconnect, I got a couple of ee_hack connection logs, and also got some idle traffic scans from Scan9495.
I also grabbed some traffic at key on from flashhack and Scan9495 just for reference.

Scan9495 showed some differences after the flashhack calid change.
If you have some time, have a look at the attached file. Hope you find it helpful, or at least interesting.

on my 94 Silverado with LT1 it works superb, recognizes which side was modified and only that is beeing uploaded. every time without issues. excellent work Stevo.
Also a question, on another thread You said it can read from 92-93, will it also read TPI,TBI or Caddilac engines ECMs?

It can read from any device that accepts MODE 02 requests. You just need to know what its device ID is.

to test to see if a device supports mode 2, send the command F4 02 00 00. if it supports mode 2 you'll get some data back otherwise it'll time

the ECM is often device F4

i still can't reproduce the issue so i've made 'resume normal communications' an option which is off by default (in the next version) maybe that'll help somehow

Happy to test a new version when it's ready, Steveo.

Don't know what's causing the problem either, but there is something happening in the comm data after a vin/calid change.
Hope the comm logs were of some use, if only to show how EEHack successfully handled it vs Flashhack.

Flashhack is a great tool - glad to help make it even better.

without looking at the logs i do know that eehack doesn't close communications after a vin/calid setting and flashhack does.

eehack tries to do everything while interrupting the logging datastream a minimal amount, it basically does its additional requests and immediately starts pulling more logging data.

flashhack is more procedural, it runs through a procedure then cleans up and closes the interface

i think it's probably trying to wake the bus master back up that's causing the issue so we just won't do that anymore. it'll wake up on its own after we stop communicating anyway, just will take a few seconds.

That should work based on what I saw - it seemed to be associated with the cleanup but only after vin or calid change, for whatever reason. It also occurred using the 'close-interface' button after unloading the kernel. Not closing the interface and letting it wake up on its own to avoid the situation for these few operations sounds like a good approach.

I'll give it a go when ready.

    Jim

From one of my earlier posts:
It seems to have something to do with the 'close-interface' command in the context of these operations and/or the subsequent reconnect. I went back to b0.5.9 which didn't close the interface after a vin/calid change, and they worked, just as b0.6.3 does after loading and unloading the kernel without manually closing the interface.
