OXYGEN SENSOR/WELD BUNGS

Still trying to understand how to program the PCM but this is a " easy for me to do thing" i am going to reconnect the Oxygen sensors and need to weld bungs onto the exhaust. I am going to go ahead and get new OEM O2 sensors and since i have dual exhaust with long tube headers where would be the best place to install them? Right after the headers on both sides?( i dont plan to have CAT's). I believe the original set up on the 94 Caprice(donor car) was one on the Driver's side just upstream of the CAT and the Pass. side was on the header. Will the relocation affect the PCM readings? From what i can tell from the old O2's sensors(i kept the old ones from the Caprice) the O2's are visibly exactly the same but do not have a PN on them. Would this mean that the Left and right are the same sensor? Rock auto list the NTK21006 as a left or a right bank sensor, the other brand name ones dont say. Just wanted to confirm this.

( Transplanted a 94 caprice LT1 (5.7) w/ a 4L60E into an 84 El camino)

ideal is right after the collectors on the headers

there is a parameter that needs to be increased if the o2s are further from the exhaust ports than stock or exhaust flow is slower (larger primary tubes). its the integrator delay time in my xdf. if if doubt just double it it’ll probably be fine

oh missed part two, every o2 is somewhat the same and will work. left, right, front, back, car, truck whatever, lt1 or not. the only major difference is heated or non heated, and the plug. i wouldn't use NGK sensors for some reason i find that they're a bit jumpy, i guess it's that crazy japanese response time

one other thing is try to make the distance equal on both sides. some headers make this hard, and it's ok to have unequal lengths but it'll make life way easier on you if they're equal.

Thanks steveo! I do believe i have plenty of room right after the collectors on both sides. And i'll go ahead and stick with the DELPHI brand. The ACDELCO AFS75 location looks to be mounted in the header and the DELPHI ES20317 is in the pipe. With that said i'll just get 2 of the DELPHI ES20317 since i'll have them in the same location. Is the DELPHI ES20317 ok to go with? they also have the BOSCH 15703.

got the bungs welded in and the new Delphi ES20317 O2's installed, right after the collectors.Had about 1 inch of harness slack left on the pass. side. thanks for the help.

always nice to avoid using an o2 extension

i'm pretty sure the AFS75 and that delphi ES20317 are the same sensor these days...

You mean there is such a thing as O2 extentions? lol! If i didnt have enough length i was thinking about going up the wiring harness where it splits from the main harness and splice/solder in a couple inches! Whew! good thing it didnt come to that.
