OBD2 for LX9 in vintage car

Is there a way to use a newer OBD2 ECM to control an LX9 in a vintage car? The engine is a 2005 LX9 from a Chevy Malibu going into a 69 RWD MGB GT. Trans is a 94 T5 from a Firebird. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I’m new to the idea of using EFI in a vintage car.

    thanks!
    Dan

    Hi Dan,

This question seems strange. The LX9 appears to have been used from 2004 to 2006. OBDII became the legal standard in 1996 and is still in effect today. So, LX9 is OBDII. The only hurdle would be obtaining tuning software that works with the stock pcm.

There are a few folks that have used an older computer to control the lx9. I’m aware of the date for ODB2. I’m trying to figure out why you wouldn’t use the ECM from the donor to control the lx9. Would it be to avoid the numerous other items controlled by the ECM that would not be used on a vintage vehicle? I’m new to the efi world, so please bare with my numerous questions.

    Thanks,
    Dan

    Hi Dan,

    Questions are no problem.

People appear to avoid the ECM from the donor because the tuning software does not allow as many variables to be tuned. The ecm may work fine for a stock application but there are limited ways to make changes if needed.

Was that engine supported by DHP?

im Not sure if it’s supported by DHP. Some digging eludes it is supported but nothing that says that is truly the case. DHP supports the other GM 60degreeV6 engines...so...
