i'm pretty sure you'll want the 4.3 knock module too. i don't seem to have an L99 bin in my collection, but do you want to check?

download all the b-body bins and look for one with a much lower injector constant. i know the L99 had smaller injectors.

Either 17s like the 3.4 V6 or 19s like the 305 IIRC. I had and may still have a 4.3 file. It is EEB though.

I once turned one of those 4.3s into a 305 with nearly no work. Had a 4.3 with a spun rod bearing and a 0.030" over 305 boat engine with a cracked block. Bored the 265 to the 305s 0.030" over size and put the rotating assembly into it. Ran really well with a ZZ4 cam and 1.6 rockers. At that time the junkyards wanted $1500 for a running LT1.

L99 spark tables are also very different from LT1. L99 is an interesting engine with 305 bore and 3" stroke. I actually bought an "L99" Taxi engine that must have been rebuilt by a pretty inventive guy as it was a 5.0 LT based engine, 350 crank and rods plus L99 pistons in L99 block, which never actually existed.

Attached is a '94 L99 .bin although I will not vouch for authenticity. I may have .cal or .tun L99 files if needed.

305/350 result in the same. The 305 just does not have to be rebalanced although I recomeend balancing even on a stock rebuild.

You know, I started my reply but didn't post until hours later. In the meantime you go and steal the punchline from the story.

I know the 302 I built didn't have enough weight at the crank. I used a 5.7 flat top piston with a taller compression height so I could try to get decent compression out of the L31 heads. My machinist friend and I worked on lightening the pistons so I didn't have to spring for Mallory metal. Good thing, too because the build really does rely on RPM to keep the truck and trailer moving when climbing hills.

It's been many years since I collected specs but I believe the L99 heads were 58cc chambers. I sold a set on Ebay and as part of the ad copy I'd calculated the comression ratio of an LT1 with the L99 heads at something like 11:1. They sold to a guy in Alabama who was planning to build a Caprice with a 25mpg goal out of a 5.7. I'd think a stroker L99 would be a better route for reasonable power and good economy using reverse flow block and heads.

I wonder if you could get a 3.875" stroke and 6" rods into a L99 or 305 block like people do to make a 396 LT1. Thay would get you to 345 CID and would be an undersquare engine. I bet for low-end torque and economy it would beat out a 350.

thanks for the info I have 4 l99 all run well just they have been pulled out and replaced with the 5.7 lt1 so I have an idea ill make some good gas milage engines for my offroad buddies on budget buthe tunes are all different tire size transmissions gear ratios ahh and the dreaded map tables they all have very low rear gear ratios that makes them littlte motors with the right torqe and enough power.so far the ones I have installed are still running a year later with a lot of abuse thrown at them as long as you have a good radiator and fan even in this weather of 100 degrees plus everyday they still stay cool enough to run daily.I live 40 miles from death valley.IM going to the junk yard today to see if ican pull some old caprice 4.3 pcms when I get them and bench test and tune ill probably get enough info to build a new bins.if they work ill post them if that's alright.

I will look around for more files. I believe I have at least one Tunercat file but without a pcm to flash it into then read back, I don't know how to convert it to .bin file.

Agreed. Years ago I had an '82 Monte w/ CCC and 267. It had a Crane low end cam and would light the tires while getting 18-22 mpg but I always wanted to try to build a 288 using 400 crank and rods.
