    Bench testing

    I am conerting a Toyota 20R engine from the stock asian carb to gmTBI injection
    I have most of the parts needed including a 7747 ECM and a 7165 ECM
    I have a programer from MCUMALL and can read and program 27SF512 chips
    The 7747 ECM has a Moates G2 adapter and 27SF512 chip
    The 7165 ECM has had the EPROM removed and replaced with a 27SF512

    I am trying to run an ECM off a 12V power supply and get the WINALDL program and interface working
    I checked the aldl line on both ECM With a scope and I get 5V DC but no data stream

    What has to be hooked up to the ECM to get a data stream from the ALDL wire that wil be recognised by WINALDl ?
    When I program the 7747 with the G2 adapter I just put 8000 in the device offset?

    Basically, when I test bench, the distributor has to be spinning with all the wiring connected to their sensors.

    Without a properly programmed EPROM, the ECM will not send any data.

    Before I had my test bench set-up, and needed to check for powering up, I liked to at least connect a check engine light to verify that the EPROM is being read correctly. CEL on, one flash and then solid (with no RPM signal), means that the EPROM is being read correctly, a rapidly flashing CEL, means that the EPROM is not being read correctly. This will help diagnose a hardware or software problem trying to connect to the ALDL.

    But if your going to build a system and want data you may as well build the entire system or all ypu'll get is error codes, run it and check it. I found it way easier to build the complete system, have all parts checked, bin set with whatever needed on or off. Then when installed on car your good to go! I've done about 10 now this way and they all start and run with no issues!

    Thanks for the great suggestions. Hooking up the SES light was a big help for the 7747 ecm and i discoverd that the 27sf512 needs an offset of F000h with the G2 adapter. I still have not got the 165 ecm working and will take a trip back to the yards to get another ecm and memcal from a 2.5 4cyl S10 pickup

    Something is off there? I've never seen H used anywhere in chip burning? Click the link above for Moates Offsets and exact numbers will be there for 27SF512 chip and a 4K bin.

    For the drill if you take off the distributor drive gear and use a 1/2 inch drive drill you can chuck the shaft, no adapter needed. Then hang the distributor off side of bench while in the intake with drill attached or lay on bench with drill attached.

    Sorry for the confusion the h is to say the address is in Hex (thats how my calculator displays it)

    OK that's worse as hex only goes to F.
    16 digits: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, A, B, C, D, E, F.

    Proper offsets for 4k bin on 27SF512 chip are:

    4k (4096) 27SF512 | Buffer Start End 000000 -> 000FFF | Chip Start End 00F000 -> 00FFFF

    EDIT: Oh you mean you added h to end to signify hex? Should actually add $ in front to signify hex.

    both are acceptable, IMO. could go the other route and put "0x????" in front as well.
