New, 95 z28 need tuning opinions

I have done all the research I could before posting. I have a 95 Camaro LT1 A4, Cam with ported and shaved heads, springs rockers etc with bolt ons I need to have tuned. I am stuck between TunerPro and TunerCats, I am leaning toward Pro and using eehack to flash because I will be investing in HPTuners for my C5 Vette and that route would be cheapest, I will be using the Camaro as practice and preparation so when I tune my Vette I trust myself.

Which 94-95 LT1 software is easy to learn and similar to HP Tuners. I have never tuned but I have built motors and work on my own stuff, but a rookie to tuning. But it's time to learn and hopefully someone can tell me where to start.

you need to datalog, edit bin, and flash bins to get going.

i'm a bit biased towards EEHack and EEX for all of that stuff since i worked really hard on them

you have two choices for editing bins

    - tunerpro (free) which requires a definition file (recommend EEX (free)) one really good reason to use EEX is every parameter in it is documented and organized into categories so it's really easy to find stuff. there are now forks of EEX with more advanced parameters if you need them.
    - tunercat (costs money but pretty cheap).

you have two choices for flashing

    - EEHack (free use at your own risk if your ECM bricks, too bad so sad)
    - tunercat's winflash tool (also built into tunercat if you elect to buy that, its been out longer, might be more reliable, the guy that owns it might help you fix your bricked ECM if you ask nicely)

you have three choices for datalogging

    - tunerpro RT (free with nag screen) requires definition (adx file available on this forum (free))
    - EEHack (free)
    - scan9495 (free)

EEHack is a bit special because it's not just a datalogger. it uses GM technician functions to temporarily control parameters like spark, fuel, idle in real-time, so you can, for example, jack timing up a bit in an area that's running rough to see how it reacts, then make a similar change to your bin if you like it. it datalogs while you're doing this stuff. it also performs data analysis, so you can throw a bunch of datalogs into it, click a button, and it'll build maps of fueling changes recommended, or show you visually areas where repeated knock occurs across all your logs. this is also possible with tunerpro but very awkward, which is why i wrote eehack in the first place.

you know there's also no reason you can't use all of those tools. you can edit your bin with tunercat and then upload it with eehack. eehack does modify the bin's datasteam configuration when you flash bins so it can do cool stuff like speed logging, but it does it in a way that doesn't affect other loggers or bin editors, the bin on your disk is untouched and the changes are made during programming. in fact none of the stuff that EEX or EEHack does will affect how other tools work, i was really careful to write it like that so you can use more than one tool.

i do own tunercat, and sometimes i fire it up to do speedometer recalibration because i'm lazy and it does that with less effort (has a built in calculator, whereas EEx comes with a spreadsheet calculator for it)

Thank you for the reply. The LT1 presence is so strong with TunerCats that I overlooked that they have OBD2 software and I can buy the LT1 Y kit, have a plug in for obd1 and 2 for 185, and the software for my Vette for 80$ more. 264$ and able to tune both platforms. Yeah like using the best feature of each program to really get the best out of the tune, instead of just using the bare minimum. I didn't know that you could do all that, it's going to be a learning curve, but there is no Dyno Tune even for my LS1 within 4 hours of me. And what I'll have into the tools I need is less than what a mail in service would cost to tune both my cars lol. People are just lazy.

The '99 Vette will require Tunercat OBDII and an OBDII definiton file. In '98 when I purchased my copy of OBDII tuner I want to say it was $200. When I last purchased an OBDII definition they were $100. I do not believe TC OBDII can be purchased these days without buying the dealer license or the Moates RR which puts you up to the $600 mark, then the TC software plus one definition is $225.

Also, TC sells Datacat, which appears to be a replacement for Datamaster.

Yes you're correct, I realized after wards the 80$ is for vehicle licensing not the program. I only have bolt ons on the Vette, and the Camaro is a fully built top end with a cam and bolt ons, so I will get OBD1 Software for it and the Vette will have to wait.
