emulators are cool but this is a pretty mild build. why not just install a zif, get a few chips and a programmer? that's how most old gm ecms are tuned. the emulator kind of goes to waste once your tune is dialed in (which like i said earlier may only take a few tries)

I have the same cam. As long as you leave the stock injectors your stock bin will run it but not well. Because of the difference in vacuum it will probably run quite rich. I just used the apu1.

Fair enough. I guess I'm just curious. Plus, I may want to put it to use in the future. I've had many OBD1 cars, mostly TBI, and will likely have more. This one is mild, but I may go wild in the future on something else.

Excellent. I appreciate the input. Is it fairly user-friendly?

Tuned properly I was able to lower the idle rpm by 125 and still be dead smooth. Going slowly around parking lots it is a stock feel. When you get on it there is a very noticeable difference to stock.

I do not own, or have I ever used the APU1.

I own and regularly use both the Ostrich 2.0 and Burn 2.

For tuning the 16197427, I regularly use a Wide Band O2 Sensor (WBO2) and the WBO2 tuning spreadsheet posted here: http://www.gearhead-efi.com/Fuel-Inj...g)-Spreadsheet

Without a WBO2, Trimalyzer is a good tuning tool.

Then I think that's the route I will take. The APU1 package.
steveo, I appreciate you looking out for may wallet! All in all, it's not a huge extra investment to get the APU1 package vs getting everything it comes with minus the emulator, so I'll take the plunge.

Thanks, guys. This should be interesting!

    Edit:
Posted before I saw your last reply davew. Buying all the rest of the equipment plus an Ostrich 2.0 seems to not make financial sense compared to the APU1. Especially if they accomplish the same tasks. I'm definitely going to try out the Trimalyzer!

I've had an APU1 hooked up to my G20 van for ages, eventually I'll replace it with a chip.
I've just changed my cam so it's just easier to upload changes with the APU1 still connected.

I had one installed semi permenantely as well on my old G20.

I have the first generation APU1. Needed a replacement Datalog cable and Craig was able to locate one and sell it to me. He said it was a dinosaur lol.

Depending on application EBL comes with a lot of starter tunes- so you aren't starting from scratch, Rob is a great resource. On the minus at least in my area most tuners are into LS boxes so finding a guy even to look at the older ecu is a problem. Davew has helped me a bit with my EBL and once the weather improves will need to kick start that again.
    - I like Pnp and you have a electric trans to think about, that should end the argument pretty quick.
    - Davew has a business tuning and I think he is very familiar with your oem ecu- big bonus.
    - I like my EBL as it replaced my 7747, I want to move towards a 0411 and I have a 4L60E core that will replace the 700.

For the 16197427, the bare bones tuning kit requires a chip programmer ( the chip is actually a 27C512), UV Eraser (to erase the original memcal chip), TunerPro RT, Moates HDR1 ( http://support.moates.net/hdr1/ ) and Trimalyzer.

I placed my order for the APU1. I think I'll be happiest with what that method.
    Excellent input, guys! Thanks!

You might consider a G1 adapter unless you plan on desoldering the original PROM and installing a zif...
