    conformal coating turned jello!

Cut open a failed MAP sensor from my latest TBI endeavor to find that the conformal coating had turned to jello. So soft it apparently plugged the vacuum port on the sensor itself.

Wow. Is this an OEM sensor? Old part or new?

I have not cut open a map sensor, but some of the oem controllers, mefi for example, have a jelly like conformal heat coating inside. Weird stuff.

You poked at it making the mess, right?

That looks like typical potting compound used in a wire bonded application.

OEM. Original to the truck AFAIK so 27 years old.

I've seen similar stuff of varying viscosity, this stuff was very loose and wobbly though.

This is how it looked when I opened it up. I think the stuff got so soft it flowed down into the vavcuum port like I mentioned and seemed to plug it up.

Sometimes this MAP would work, other times it would randomly lock in the middle of the voltage range and KPA on the scanner.
