Gathering parts for the future, how does this combo look?

    Going into a 1989 Blazer with 700R4, 4.56 gears and 35"s

I plan on keeping the original roller cam block and changing to Vortec heads. I have an old Edelbrock 3505 MPFI intake and a Holley 670 cfm throttle body. For the cam I have a GM cam with about 205/215 duration and .450/.465 lift.

I currently have the original ECM but could upgrade to a 411 if it will make my life easier.

    Will this combo play together?

The second generation OBD1 TBI computer 16197427 can be modified for MPFI.

The 16197427 will operate the 700R4 TCC.

The '0411 DOES NOT operate the 700R4 TCC.

The '0411 requires a cam position sensor and crank position sensor.

The 16197427 computer DOES NOT require a cam position sensor.

The 16197427 computer DOES NOT require a crank position sensor.

The 16197427 and 1227747 use the same computer connector pins, so upgrading from the 1227747 to the 16197427 can be done by pin swapping.

The '0411 uses expensive tuning software from EFI Live or HP Tuners.

The 16197427 uses low cost tuning software from TunerPro or DataCat.

I looked at that, I have a lot to learn before I know what that means.

A programmer told me that with a comp 08-501-8 cam and ported Vortecs I could have up to 390 hp, sound realistic?

I'd look at this cam, 08-412-8 it's about the same as far as lift and duration but it's ground on a 110 lobe separation angle instead of the 112 of the 08-501-8. Give a little better torqe thru the midrange and harder hit. Either of these will need the valve guides on the vortec heads cut down and better spring. need 120-130 lbs on the seat. The engine will run good. The Vortec heads are way better than the old fuelie heads but be warned, very few shops know how to do port work on them. If not done correctly the heads will flow worse, not better.

I forgot about this old thread, I guess I could stick with the 427 but would I have to program the chips like the old days?

The old way of programming chips for the 16197427 is an option. There is also the option to use a Moates.net Ostrich 2.0 to allow "flashing" the 16197427 like an OBD2 computer.
