Which ZIF chip adapter for this ECM?

    1988 Camaro 2.8 V6

Want to copy factory chip first.

Factory chip is fragile. Don’t want to take it in-and-out more than just this once.

Want to install ZIF (zero insertion force) adapter into ECU chip-slot so I can do chip swaps without worrying about breaking chips.

Moates adapter shown in photo has way too many pins.
Seems I need an adapter that will mate with the 24-pin slot on the Camaro’s ECU.

Can anyone tell me which ZIF adapter I should be using?
Not seeing a 24-pin ZIF jumping out at me on the Moates.net webstore.

Also come to realize there are bunches of EPROM-type ECU models out there.
Can anyone definitively tell me which model number I have?

Here is a ZIF socket that will work. https://www.ebay.com/i/292269385625?chn=ps&dispItem=1
You also need to modify the Socket as described here if you decide to use EEproms like the SST27SF512. http://www.gearhead-efi.com/Fuel-Inj...sion-(27SF512)
If you plan on keeping the 24 pin UV type Eprom, you can cut the upper 4 pins off the socket and make sure you insert the chip towards bottom of the socket.

Mouser has 24 pin zif sockets https://www.mouser.com/Connectors/IC...ytkn06Z1z0xa2t

    The Moates.net Burn 2 ( http://www.moates.net/burn2-chip-programmer-p-197.html ) WILL NOT work with 24 pin chips.
    .
24 pin chips require an Ultra Violet Light to be erased.

There are 24 pin chip variants, 2732, 2732a, and 2732b, GM used all three 24 pin chip variants.

I use my BX32 ( http://www.newark.com/batronix/bx32-...-ii/dp/53M6868 ) which has the ability to identify what variant a 24 pin chip is.

One option is to install a modified 28 pin zif socket and 27SF512 28 pin EEPROM. ( http://www.gearhead-efi.com/Fuel-Inj...sion-(27SF512) )

    Thanks guys!

Dave at Moates got back to me via email (on EASTER no less)!
He cleared up things for me:
    I need a G2 adapter instead of a G1 adapter.
Also, he gave the all-clear on the set of steps that I suggested for copying my factory chip to a file on my PC with the Flash & Burn PC utility.

I ordered a G2 adapter and ZIF adapter from the Moates website.
    This thing: http://www.moates.net/g2-memory-adap...cing-p-36.html
    and
    This thing: http://www.moates.net/s2-aries-28pin...cket-p-44.html

I think I will keep the G1 adapter instead of returning it. I have a second ECU (from 1992 V6 Firebird) that I got as “boot” in a motor-swap deal. I opened it up yesterday to discover that it has a longish (compared to my ECU) chip that fits in a slot that looks like that G1 should fit. I have no immediate plan to put that ECU into service. Time and opportunity will tell.

Call me crazy, but I'm excited about the opportunity to SOLDER on the brain of my car.
I will try to report on how it goes.

I already have a couple 28-pin chips for moving forward.
I ordered those last week while I was doing my schtick of drunken-blind-man ordering tech gear on the internet.
I agree that it doesn't make much sense to try to stick with 24-pin chips. The only reason I can think of for putting up with 24-pin chips is to allow you keep using the access-coverplate for the ECU. That access plate feature is not important to me.

Anyhow, thanks a ton for your patience and guidance.
Without guys like you, I wouldn’t know whether to **** or go blind on this project.
