Question Memcal Question - are they different?

    Hi,

I purchased a Moates G1 adaptor for my ECM before purchasing a chip from another tuner. This tuner supplied their chip in a OEM package, with a memcal.

However, the supplied memcal printed PN is different than the one that I had in my vehicle. Should I be concerned about that, and switch over to a G1 w/ the original memcal with the new chip? Or continue running it with the supplied memcal from my tuner?

    Thank you, tony

As long as the memcal is from a similar build it should be ok. Such as # of cylinders, TBI/MPFI and what not. However, if I have the original memcal then I am going to use it. I would look up what app the memcal is from.

Thanks Stokes - the tuner knew the specs for my engine, so I have to assume they did a good job matching. As I move towards burning chips, I'm going to switch over to the orginal one.

If your burning your own chips, the only thing the memcal will basically affect is limp mode. And as long as its a similar match to your motor (V8,TBI) or whatever it may be, your computer wont know the difference of memcals.

It has been two years since this post, and I have lost track of which of the memcals is the stock one. I believe it is the one in the pic below. Can anyone tell me which mask/bin is compatible with this? When I search the GM ECM forum 16213479 does not return any results.

I just ordered the hardware from Moates which allows me to read the chip through the memcal with my BURN2 unit, because I want to try to start from scratch on my own. Or at least be able to compare the bin to the one I purchased from a tuner. Once that comes in I will need the other corresponding files for it.

Thank you Dave! Any idea on why the longer numerical numbers are not listed in the ECM page associated with this $31?

Most all the information in the ECM section was hand entered. Understandably some of the information is truncated due to memory space limitations and saving time.
