SUMMIT RACING SUM-1103 camshaft for TBI, will it work?

Anyone here has tried the SUMMIT RACING SUM-1103 camshaft on a 350 TBI engine? how did it run? any issues with the MAP sensor? this cam is 214 in 224 ex 112 lsa

I'm converting to TBI but hate the stock cam, I'm not after a wild cam either, just a little improvement.

    I'm running a 1900 rpm converter, TH400, 4.56 rear end

    Thanks.

I am not personally familiar with this cam. I can tell you that I am using the sealed power CS-1014R cam which I am happy with. However my setup probably a lot different than yours. Specifically I am using the vortec heads and it sounds like you are running the TBI heads. There is a summit racing answer that indicates this cam is designed for use with a carb setup. Big picture is that you can probably make this cam work with TBI but it will probably not work well on a stock tune.

that cam is pretty similar to summit´s SUM-1102 which they state is not computer compatible, but obviously is working for you, I wonder if the sligthly larger 1103 that is 214 int. 224 exh. would work fine as well, both your´s and summit´s are 112 deg lsa.

It all depends on your expectations. If you plan to spend hours and hours of troubleshooting, testing, data logging, and tuning then yea, should be fine. If you are looking for something that works out of the box you will probably be disappointed.

well, working out of the box is not hot-rodding and takes away all the fun, doesn´t it?

The reason they say not computer compatible is because it requires tuning. I'd expect that cam to work fine with tuning.

I ran a cam with a little more duration and it wasn't too bad to tune. Ran on a stock bin but did required tuning to get it right.

I ran the old L82 cam in a 305 TBI. I had flat top pistons and 081 TPI heads that had been heavily reworked with 1.94/1.60 valves.Took alot of tuning to make it run right but it can be done. The L82 cam is 224/224 @ .050, .450/.461" lift and 114 lsa. I had it in the engine 4* advanced on a 110 ICL.

I have not run that setup in years. It was in my old 1983 G20 Van. From what I can remember.

That setup made 12 in/hg @ 700 rpm in drive with the a/c on. No A/C and out of gear it made about 16 in/hg @ 750 rpm.

Took alot of VE and Spark tuning as well as reprogramming for a High MAP code...IIRC Code 34.

My brother has a Vortec 305 in his 1999 Tahoe that I built with a Lunati HE 268 cam. It is 218/218 @ .050, .458/.458" lift on a 110* LSA and 106* ICL. The L82 cam in the TBI had more top-end HP and the Lunati cam more midrange.
