Differences between an 88 350 vs 95 350 for engine swap.

Hello, my dads truck is an 88 k2500 light duty with the 350 and 700r4. It has i think around maybe 250,000. Anyway it has piston slap pretty bad. A friend just bought a 95 truck to take the transmission from and is willing to sell the engine for cheap. The 95 engine has 180k on it but supposedly runs great. My dad wants to swap the 88 engine with the 95 engine and wants to know if there are any differences he might encounter. The 88 truck is bone stock with all the emissions equipment still hooked up. Would the engines just swap or are some things in different locations such as egr and whatnot? If stuff is in slightly different places can the serpentine belt system and intake manifold just be swapped over. Also would the 700r4 just bolt up to where the 4l60e or 4l80e was? Going to look at the engine on monday. Thanks

I meant to put this in the gearheads section. I placed it the efi section by habit. If you think this thread is appropriate for the efi section you can leave it otherwise can a mod move it to the gearheads section. im not sure how to move it myself.

Theres no real difference in the blocks and most likely the heads. The throttle bodies are setup a little different sensor wise and possibly the intake. Everything can transfer over without any issues though. The 700r4 will work with the original throttle body, but you will have to figure something out for tuning within the bin. Im sure someone will chime in with more info about that.

The long block is a direct bolt-in. Just use the existing flexplate if there is any doubt as to what transmission was behind the donor. The 4L80E uses 6 evenly spaced bolts unlike the 4L60E flexplate that uses 2 different patterns of 3 bolts. Nothing is worse than the get the engine in and bolted to the trans only to find out the converter cannot be bolted in.
