    16197427 Question: Manual to Automatic

So sorry if this has been asked before. I don't seem to be finding an answer... Hopefully I'm asking in the correct place. Can any 16197427 ECM control a 4L80e with the correct programming? I ask because I find a lot of threads about disabling the automatic transmission control (in programming) in the 16197427 ECM when moving from an automatic to a manual transmission. Are the parts needed to control the 4L80e inside all models of the 16197427 ECM, or do I need to purchase a 16197427 ECM with the correct BCC code showing it came out of a vehicle that controlled a 4L60e or 4L80e? Thanks in advance for your thoughts on this. David

The 7427 supports the 4L80E using $31 and $0E. See these threads for bin files etc. http://www.gearhead-efi.com/Fuel-Inj...Information-31 http://www.gearhead-efi.com/Fuel-Inj...Information-OE

Thanks for the reply, but I don't think my question was answered. I'm sure it's my fault I didn't ask correctly, so I will try to ask it a different way... If you pull the circuit board out of two different 16197427 ECM's, one originally from the factory in a manual transmission vehicle, and one from a vehicle that used an electronic controlled automatic, would they both be the same inside? Do all the 16197427 ECM's leave the factory with the circuitry capable of controlling an electronic automatic transmission? If this question is something truly new, I will buy two (one of each), and report back with what I find...Thanks and take care.

yup, ecms with the same part number are functionally identical.

    yup.

For a logical argument, since the pcm / ecm is ordered by part number, it would be difficult for a technician to order the correct part if two identical part number pcm's were deliberately constructed for different purposes? The BCC code refers to programming on a removable chip which carries a separate number from the pcm.

Thank you so much Steveo and 1project2many! I was hoping that was the case. My slow but sure collection of parts continues...
