    1227747 ECM, add-on WB O2?

    OK pretty sure there is no capability to monitor WB02 with this ECU. I have factory 305 manifolds on my 5.7, as they were plenty for the initial transplant of the stock 5.7 into my S10. The driver's side has an O2 bung on it right at the point where the main tube of the casting joins the downtube.

    Few questions:

    -What is the best place for a WBO2 sensor? I have the factory sensor at the "Y" of the crossover pipe in the factory location of the 4.3 V6.

    -Presumably a Bosche sensor will be best. What sort of application would I look for, any OBDII+ GM application?

    -I'll need a driver to run it. I'd like to be able to incorporate the data from it into engine management and logging. Presumably I'm looking at something from Moates, and an ECU change to a 7247 (or was it a 7427, my dyslexia is getting the best of me again).

    -I'd like to get this done right, but I don't want to have to shell out $500 either. I don't mind piecemealing it here and there- I do know I'd like to go with something like the Ostrich setup where I can emulate a tune and if I like it I can send it to the ECM and just be done with it. Pie-in-the-sky, I'd like to be able to skip burning chips altogether (but in truth if I don't have to burn chips every darn time I make a change, and just have to when I find something I like, that's just fine).

    I have more questions but that's enough to focus on at the moment.

    I like the plan to upgrade to the '7427.

    I like using my Ostrich 2.0 to tune with.

    I like my AEM 30-4110 WBO2 http://www.aemelectronics.com/produc...uego-afr-gauge it is plug-n-play ready for the '7427 (see info in the link below)

    About what did that cost you? The link you provide is to a gauge- comes with the WBO2 apparently. Did you go for the lambda or the A/F gauge?

    EDIT: answered the cost question myself- ranges $170-225. But which gauge?

    Thanks for that info...

    This accidentally brings something to mind- my log file was shoing a 400 volt output from the O2 (I was understandably reticent to believe it- this is a 1-wire O2 sensor, brand new, mind)...

    I'm sure it is just an artifact of bad code in the 7747 (truck has never been updated, to my knowledge. I'm running a 7747 pullout from a wrecked truck that I was given. While it is proper for the application (5.7 and 700R4), I know it's giving me bad data in the spark advance and injector duty cycle fields.

    It is seeming more and more like the first project I will need to work on will be upgading the socket on my 7747, obtaining a few chips and having someone help me make the updates so I can get meaningful data in the above mentioned fields.

    OK the wiring of the AFR Gauge and WBO2 looks pretty straight forward... brings two more questions to mind:

    -is there any need for the factory O2 sensor (1 wire, remember- 80's tech here) once you have installed WBO2? (EDIT: Please ignore, you answered this in the first paragraph I now see)

    -What's the best location? I have a bung on the driver's side manifold at the block, and I have one at the crossover pipe where the banks come together (vicinity of the bellhousing).

    I'm assuming "the hotter the better"- but I'm also assuming it wants a totality of the exhaust for sampling...

    The method in the thread I posted is for datalogging only. It only works in open loop. I don't think the feedback from the W.B. controller is not usable for closed loop fueling. After I'm done tuning with the Wideband controller:


    • I replace the wide-band O2 sensor with a 4 wire narrow-band (heated) O2 sensor. You can use the 1-wire narrow-band sensor if you want to.
    • Remove the voltage divider and rewire (similar to a stock application)
    • re-burn my chip for a closed loop tune


    Maybe someone smarter than me knows how to use the wideband controller for closed loop fueling. Unfortunately, I'm not that smart

    I would mount it in the manifold.

    i am in the middle of trying to work out all the details with a wide band for my 1988 GMC van. There are still a few details to work out but this much I already know, put the WBO2 in the crossover. The bosche sensors can apparently be quite sensitive to too much heat. I haven't changed it yet but with mine mounted in the stock location it will sometimes just stop reading any reasonable numbers. Of course I am also chasing an issue that may have something to do with the info I am getting.
    Programming the controller to duplicate a narrow band o2 is something I have tried once. It did not work so well if I also wanted it to be used for data logging. I believe there are several settings needing to be changed in order for it to work. One being the rich/lean crossover point. But as I already stated I have other issues I am chasing too. And my oscilloscope decided to "die" yesterday. So until i get the parts to fix it I am flying blind.
