    Newbie to Tuning

    Hello, as stated in the title I am a newbie getting into tuning. I used to use an outsider for my tuning needs but as I am now needing more and more I feel that it would be more cost effective if I were to learn this trade.. I am currently working on a '95 S10 originally 2.2L that has been swapped to a 4.3L

    When I built the 4.3L it was a CPI motor that I later threw the intake and all the spider components in the trash, and opted for the TBI setup for more reliability and no more fuel dumping due to a leaking spider. I know it doesn't get that great fuel mileage, but I can tell you it has a lot more power since swapping the intakes and fuel delivery! This is not my daily driver!

    So, here is what I have done and working with - 16197427 ECM, I was able to re-use the CPI harness for the TBI setup. I removed the EGR and used the wire(s) from the tuning valve as my second injector wire (plus re-pinned the ECM cavity). I have ordered from Moates.com a Burn 2, HDR1 adapter as well as a few SST 27SF512 chips. I have been "googling" for several days while waiting on my stuff to arrive and ran across a question that I want to get clarified.. I plan on replacing the factory EPROM with an EEPROM and have seen that some say the 27SF512 chips will work and some say they don't? I was under the impression that since you are replacing the entire chipset with a compatible but better one, the computer wouldn't know what was in there?? Clarifying what I am asking.. There are several memcals that my dad and I picked up from the junkyard that have different factory EPROM's and saw that when ordering the '512 chips some were compatible and some not?

    Anyway that is what I am doing in a nutshell, anyone feel free to comment or ask questions and I will gladly try to answer them as best as I can..

    There are options for using the 27SF512 with 1619747 PCM.

    Here is a link to one of those options: http://www.gearhead-efi.com/Fuel-Inj...r-27SF512-Chip

    Another option is to use a G1 adapter: http://support.moates.net/g1/

    Yes Dave much like you posted is how I am thinking only not using a DIP socket, but instead the chip only on the header.. My question or clarification is mainly the replacement of the factory EPROM. The one you have shown in your own post was a 67633 as well as I removed one today that was a AD27C256 I believe was the imprint. Can you just exchange those chips for the SST counterpart? It sounds like I have to adjust the "Start of Device" value? Or do I just go by the chart that he has posted with the 64k bin and use the address' as shown?

    From Moates.com
    Works fine as a drop-in replacement for the AT29C256. These work great with the G1, G3, F1, etc. This is the max size for a 28-pin chip. When the C1 isn't big enough, such as Ford EEC-IV applications or later-model TBI GM systems, this chip will do the trick. 90ns flash drop-in replacement for 27C512 EPROMs. Make sure your programmer supports it, there's a funky programming erase voltage required (BURN1, APU1, or PocketProgrammer2 should be fine, APS1 is not). Works fine with 1227165, 1227730, and other similar ECMs. If your car normally takes a 27C128, 27C256, or 27C512, these should work for you. Just adjust the 'Start of Device' value when programming. (For 27C128 original, set to C000 hex. For 27C256 original, set to 8000 hex.)

    64k (65536) 27SF512 000000 -> 00FFFF 000000 -> 00FFFF

    Installing the chip without the DIP socket works.

    The 16197427 uses a 64K chip, the 27SF512 is a 64K chip.

    You have posted the correct "Offsets" for a 64K chip.
