    Getting started

Ok, so many of you may or may not know that i have installed a chevy 350 in a mazda miata with 2 eaton m90's strapped to it.

i have a 16196395 computer, moates g1 adapter, a N/A chip from mark, BURN2 unit, and an ALDL cable.

A little background about the engine:
    Crate chevy 350/330hp
    http://www.summitracing.com/parts/nal-19210008

blew it up, rebuilt it, converted it to TBI and added 2 blowers to it

No smog stuff, and no a/c ..... just the necessities to make it run [IACV, MAP, TPS, Coolant Temp, Oil Pressure]

    t5 manual transmission

Right now it is on a 350 throttle body and 350 injectors..... believe its 61pph..... removed the OEM regulator and installed an aftermarket unit so i can adjust it.

    2 bar map sensor

    wideband o2

I now think that i am ready to begin tuning. The car runs and drives but i do NOT want to take it into boost until i know what im looking at and everything looks good.

I have tunerpro installed on my laptop and have no clue where to start at especially with boost in play. I have marks bin file loaded from the chip he burned for me.
I have watched some videos on youtube about tunerpro, but that still doesn't put me in the neighborhood of where i need to be at.... i learn fast so if you guys can explain things, ill post pictures and give you detailed information on how the car is running and what the wideband is saying.

Thank you so much for your help and this shall be a fun experience :D

PS: I do not have chips YET, but can i run a "tune" via the laptop without ostrich or chip swapping just to see how the car would react or would i need to burn chips every single time?

Each time you change a parameter, like a fuel table cell, you need to modify the .bin file. The modified .bin file can be uploaded to an Ostrich 2.0 or Burned to a chip, your choice.

For an application like yours, an Ostrich 2.0 is a good option because uploading to the Ostrich 2.0 is quicker than pulling a chip / then installing an undated chip every time you want to change a parameter.

Alrighty, i messed around with it for HOURS trying to connect to tunerpro..... messed with com ports and everything, wouldn't connect. Tester said it was reading perfectly fine. Tried a new .adx and .xdf file and connected great.

now, like stated before, where do i begin?
can i delete all the trans, a/c, egr stuff in the xdf file since my car doesn't have any of it?..... simply just to clean up the confusion that is overwhelming me lol

i can also do a "naturally aspirated" log so you guys can see where the car sits with marks file and then go from there hopefully leading to boost.
I will buy an ostrich if its really necessary. I think i'll be here for quite a while trying to get the basics down and learning whats good/bad for the engine, etc.
maybe tuning naturally aspirated at first will be better. I don't even see the boost tables in it.

Here is a screenshot so you can see the ADX and XDF files that im using now since it decided to connect

See if you can connect with the attached .xdf & .adx, which are updated versions of what your are currently using.

You won't see boost tables. You have to "Trick" the PCM into seeing boost with a 2 Bar MAP sensor.

You can disable EGR a couple different ways; Set EGR enable temperature to 151 C. Set EGR enable speed to 255 MPH. I set "Manual Trans" for the following TH350, TH400, NV4500, NV3500, T56, T5 ect.

I am currently getting some stuff tig welded so the engine will actually be able to receive boosted air

also need to get new plugs, wires, cap, and rotor...... car is missing like a SOB at 6 and 8..... AFR readings are at 15.5-16.0 hoping it is because of the misfire.

whenever everything is straightened around, we can work on tuning it. Might buy and ostrich unit so that way i can be on the phone and computer with one of you guys and do real time tuning with your help.

    keep you posted :D

TeamViewer is what I've used to remote tune real time with an Ostrich 2.0: https://www.teamviewer.com/en/?pid=g...FUiPfgodDZ8GSA

Remote control your laptop to someone else to drive.

I think you should buy an Ostrich anyway.

Generally, my remote tuning sessions are more like tutorials ... helping others learn to tune for themselves.

Remote tuning can be very successful, especially when the "customer" is willing to participate in the tuning process.

    Lesson 1 - Data logging

    Lesson 2 - Modifying a .bin file.

    Lesson 3 - Tuning

This is going to be an interesting thread- but how about pics of the motor? I can't imagine how one attaches two M90s to a smallblock..

Finally decided to work on the old donkey and got it up and running again.

I performed a datalog AT IDLE of what the computer is seeing. As you can see, the idle jumps up spontaneously for no reason...... if you would like to see it while i give it just a little throttle, let me know.

here is a picture of the setup for good measure :]

Plumbing pipe used as heater lines? I like it, but I'm wondering if maybe you should have a flex line in there somewhere to account for engine torque, of which I suspect there might just be a lot...
