Anyone opened up an ABS/EBCM module?

I haven't seen much on the interwebs about it. I thought I'd ask before I buy something on ebay and hack it up. I'd like to put a 4-channel setup on a project I'm working on, but it would be nice to tweak a few things and change (or determine) the correct reluctor tooth counts. I have read about the Bosch aftermarket stuff, but I'm not interested in spending $12k+ on that.

The ones I have seen were potted electronics using wirebonds and dies right on the board which means the board can't be modified or fixed, with a power circuit board on top. The power board didn't have many components on it.

i've opened up a GM ABS-VI unit(probably 95ish vintage), it has a Motorola processor in it, but I don't believe I identified an external PROM, so all of the code would be in the microcontroller itself.

I wonder if there's anything to be learned from snooping a tech2/SPS connected to one? I believe they can be flashed, but I'm not 100% sure on that. I'd like to use a more modern 4 channel setup like the C5 or C6. I did a lot of reading last night about what some BMW people are doing with a Teves/Conti unit.

You could test it with a tech II to monitor the thing for operating without the BCM, PCM or IPC connected to see what it does. If it gives faults then you'd have to figure out the serial messaging it's expecting.
