    welcome!

    I don't understand binary
it's a switch, 1 or 0, which can mean on or off, yes or no, enabled or disabled.

one binary number is called a 'bit'

eight of them in a group is called a 'byte' and can represent 256 unique values

that's all you need to know about binary to tune

not to sure what everything means but should beable to learn quick
i highly recommend using my xdf in tunerpro, http://fbodytech.com/eex-tunerpro-definition/

put it in 'category' view, then open a bin file with it. everything has tooltips on it that describe how the things work.

there's other cool stuff on my website that's lt1-specific too. any questions let us know, we've gathered quite a few LT1 tuners here!

is there anything out there that you can put all your components of your motor and tune your car and run it on some type of virtual run on computer like virtual dyno or something like that that way most the work is done in the house then I could take it plug it in send the tune to the ecm and run it if not its a great idea if anyone has the knowledge to do so

a simulator would never be able to simulate the behavior of the inputs and outputs of your fuel injection system properly.

there's no tool that'll bypass having to learn how to tune and datalog and analyze data. you'll have to learn to do it properly.

tunerpro is free, and you'll probably find it easier to use than tunercat once EEX is loaded into it, but it's a matter of opinion. they mostly do the same stuff.

Much engine and drivetrain work is done by simulator at OE level now. But they "apply" a human for the final touches. I have used an expensive dyno simulation program which tries to estimate spark advance and VE but getting the number right requires a *bunch* of correct data. It can be more work to get the data than to sit in the car and tune.

makes sense I knew if there would be something like that it would be way to expensive for me and also the amount of data you need from the car would be way to much makes sense thanks for the info interesting technology will get better eventually

Tunerpro and Tunercat are similar in that they both do tuning, but different in their second function. CATS also does PCM programming and Tunerpro also does logging. Steve also has a program he developed called EEHack that does logging, PCM programming and allows real-time control over various PCM functions. So, add that as a third program you can add to your arsenal.

You might find each one has strengths. For example, the way Tunerpro graphically displays all the automatic shift point and TCC lockup tables as a 3-D map is pretty much useless. CATS displays the same table as a 2-D line graph which can be adjusted quite well to make smooth shift curves. On the other hand, Steve's EEX Tunerpro definition file categorizes everything so you can find some things easier since they are all grouped together. For example, the fan data is grouped better in Tunerpro. In CATS, you have to look at a table and in the big scalar list to find all the fan settings.

Speaking of the fan data, I just remembered something. The EEX definition has the fan hysterisis at 0.75 times what CATS has. I'm not sure which is correct.

Btw I don't have to worry about any fans I have an electric fan not running to my computer it's ran thru it's on harness and I don't have as or heater it's a toy not a everyday driver lol

$EE is one of the first flash PCM's, so no chips required. You can't do real time tuning, but EEHack does allow you to test some stuff and use that to make decisions on tuning.

Your PCM is flash memory so you just program it over the ALDL port. Real time tuning requires using an emulator in place of the programmable memory chip, on other PCM's where you would program the chip each time using a ship programmer. I guess in theory you could use an emulator on the LT1 PCM, but there is no need and I'm doubting many people do it that way.

The fan data was just an example I was using, but the PCM does a much better job of controlling fans compared to a temperature switch and relay. It's more accurate and adjustable for the on-off temperatures and it has a speed setting where the fans turn off once going fast enough they aren't needed.
