    Cool Newb checking in . . .

    Joined up to get some info on installing a GM ECM on a Toyota 3TC . . .

    Time to make some tea and get to reading!!

    I know Megasquirt will work on a 3TC and many have gone this route. But the ECU, wiring harness, sensor, etc run a minimum of $300. (time to build the ecu not included). I think can put together the same package using GM bits for about a third of that cost.

    I just have to decide which FI system to run . . . TBI (from Dodge Conquest) or MPFI . . .both would work as I want to add a turbo later.

    I used mpi on my 22RTE primarily because the intake manifold already had MPI. The 1227749 GM ecm can control idle speed and boost level and is even able to dump boost if engine knock gets too serious. The stock calibrations can be used up to 14 psi and with minor changes it can go to 28 psi. I'm running about 11-12 psi in my truck so I stayed with the stock 2 BAR MAP sensor.

    SWEET!

    I'm not sure if I can find a 1227749 ECM easily (aka on the the cheap).

    The local pull-a-part should have tons on cars with 1227727 and1227730. Based on my brief review of the site, the bin file from 7749 can be used . . . Am I correct?

    The plan is to get it running NA . . . Then add the turbo later . . .

    I'm not opposed to running the distributor to make it easier!!

    Yes, the 7727 and 7730 will work with the turbo code. There's a chart around somewhere that tells you how to wire it up. Make sure you use high impedance injectors. You'll need a turbo car 2 BAR MAP. Distributor would be easiest. That's what I planned at first but I guess I wanted the challenge of using distributorless.

    Excellent!! This may make easier for me.

    One last question (probably not lol!!), since I want to run NA first, would that be a problem? Or should I run a different setup and then re-wire for $58 code when I'm ready for the turbo?

    I would suggest using $58 from the get-go. There's a lot to learn and switching between different codes can make it more confusing. I followed the same process years ago when I added a turbo to a 2.2 Chevy. I had the startup and light load cruise values in place long before I went to boost and it saved a lot of time and headache.

    And yeah, probably not the last question.

    I just pulled a 7730 and wiring harness from a V6 Camaro. I made sure to get EVERYTHING I could.

    Time roll up my sleeves and read the info gathered on here.

    1project2many, that's a cool project truck. How large of an injector did you use?
    I seem to remember Terry Kelly telling me that because the $58 code from the 7749 was half the size (27128 chip) of the 7730 camaro code, he burned it in the second half of the space available in the 27256 chip used in the 7730. Does this ring a bell with anyone? Mike V

    Terry Kelly is a name I haven't heard in years. I'd love to know what he's up to these days.

    Yes, $58 is 16 kb, or 1/2 the size of $8B. If you use a 32k chip such as the 27256 it must be burned at the "top" of the chip.

    I used Supra injectors. They're a common upgrade for the 22RTE guys. Problem is, I can't remember if I used the 30 lb/hr non turbo injectors or the 42 lb/hr turbo version. Most likey they were from the turbo model.

    Going to a local salvage yard next week to pick up a 7749 from an 87 Calais . . .

    I have stock low z injectors and larger low z injectors when the turbo goes on. The 7749 would be better (more simple??) than the 7730 with a resistor box.
