TBI VSS connections on 1987 Chevy van

I found the vss behind the speedometer but I don't plan to use that speedometer head? one end of the vss connects to the head, looks like some sort of motion detector? Can I use this vss or will I need to purchase one that mounts on the tranny?

Well... it depends. Are you using a mechanical or electronic speedometer?

You could move the shutter wheel and sensor to your current speedometer. Otherwise you will need an inline sensor which produces two pulses per revolution. A "reed type" sensor generally works for this.
