1996 was the first year for the "heart" shape chambered vortec heads. The 5.7 heads normally have bigger valves and combustion chambers than the 5.0 heads. If I recall correctly, the 1995 heads still had the swirl ramp in the intake port under the valve. I don't think the 1996+ 5.0 heads had the heart shaped chamber either. Attached are couple of ebay pics of the 5.0 vortec head.
