    TEST Broadcast Code

I have come across a memcal with the broadcast code of TEST. Does anyone know anything about this? Could it be a calibration for testing the ECM? Which ECM?

    Thank you

Post a picture, I've never seen a BCC named "TEST".

It could be a test calibration. There were bulletins released by GM about ecms coming out of the repair facility with the test memcals installed. I met a tech years ago who claimed to have gotten one. Is there a knock sensor board installed? I'd also love to see a picture. And maybe a read of the chip, too!

I will read the prom tomorrow. Is the ceramic hybid module the knock sensor board?

Yes, that is the knock filter board.

I'm interested in seeing what is on that TEST EPROM. :)

    Should it be a 27c128?

knock filter looks to have an ID code of B or 8?

i would just read it as a 27C512 and see if it needs split after reading. no P4 used a 27C512(that I'm aware of anyways, all of the P4 ECMs I've had in-hand have their highest address line connected to +5V, effectively limiting one to 256 chips or less of effective space).

then again, there were P6 units that used that kind of MEMCAL.

Here are the contents of the EPROM. The knock board says 1B4301. The two ICs under the knock board are 16061057 and 16061058.

What did it come out of?
0x0008 = 49 HEX for the Mask ID if that is the right location of it.

PROM ID references to AFFB, 87 j-body with the turbo 2.0, which matches the B knock filter code.

unfortunately, I don't have any $49 BINs to compare it against.

Is there any harm in putting it in a 1227165 to see what happens? I'm running it on a bench.

it's meant for a 1227749... it will kind of run in a 7165, but I get the feeling it isn't going to act quite how one would expect. I/O is going to be vastly different, so what would have controlled an EGR solenoid on one might be a fan output on another, stuff like that.

Is the 1227749 based on the AFFB? What address is it at? I'm new to these ECMs.

Thanks for posting the picture and .bin file.

I believe I had a $49 at home. That was the first year turbo Sunbird 7749 code. Then it switched to $58. I'll have to look around later.

You could use the memcal for a 7165 if you remove the knock sensor board and reprogram the chip. You can plug it in to see what happens. Chances are the inputs / outputs will move. Look for the chart that shows inputs/output locations when using a 7730 with $58.
