    *This is my First try at this stuff* I'm a real old-timer so I'll apologize up front for what may be a barrage of simple minded questions. I have been reading the forum for about a month and am eternally grateful for the wealth of information for rank beginners like me.

    I've got a 1989 K1500 350 (Transplant, new and balanced) 5 speed (M20), 4X4, 220 TBI (GT4: Rear Axle, 3.73 ratio), with some running issues (new distributor with pickup and module, all new sensors on engine including O2, EXCLUDING, TPS, IAC, MAP, ESC). The VIN indicates that at some point in its life it originally had a V6.

    Got an 'ALDU1 and CABL1' from Moates to do some data logging so I can hopefully run down some afterfire/stumble issues. (I haven't checked the fuel pump, which is suspect and next on the list before some serious Timing). Hooked her up and got a good connection, I am using EagleMark's ADX, XDF, and for comparison ASDX 88 C-K Truck 5.7TBI 5 speed manual bin. The current prom is AMUD which appears to be for a 1988 305 manual trans, but was told by a fleet mechanic friend of mine that it shouldn't make any difference (which I kind of question?!) It should be AYUC according to the "BBC" lookup data sheet (thanks by the way for this resource!)

    I have some other proms and another 7747 ECM (pulled on my last trip to the yard) to monkey with as required.

    Is there a service that will burn new bin files (either the original AYUC, which I haven't found yet, or the ASDX 88 C-K Truck 5.7TBI 5 speed manual I found on this site)? on a 2732A chip or is it just as cost effective to get a Burn2 from Moates, modify the ECM, put new eeprom in and burn it myself?

    I'm primarily starting by getting my truck back to as close to stock with now mechanical issues, then deciding if I want to go further.

    I agree with just modifying the ECM and programming it yourself. You'll likely want to tune in the future anyway, so getting famialr with the ins and outs of that now will make it much easier down the road when something does need to be changed.

    Also for a beginner I would strongly recommend using the BURN2, yes, you pay a little more than some of the off-shore units, but it works DIRECTLY with Tuner Pro, and will automatically set the proper offsets for the EEPROM you are using, and the bin file. This saves a lot of headaches in getting the first burn to work. I've been programming EEPROMs for years and use the Moates equipment because it is so easy. I started with a Willems Dual Power programmer, then moved to a Willems GQ-3X (that I still have and use occasionally), when my dual power unit started having problems. I use both my BURN2 and AutProm for programming EEPROMs for vehicles, because the set up is so easy. :)

    this is the one i got.

    it's kind of a peice of crap in terms of construction quality, so if you're going to use it hundreds of times you might bust it, but i've burned a few dozen eeproms without issues, the zif itself seems to be decent enough, and the software (although poorly translated) is very functional. if you just want to roast a couple chips and get your feet wet i think its fine.

    Sometimes used burn 1's come up on ebay. I managed to get my burn 1 for under $40 i think.

    Then you will need this for that light:

    This is the bulb required to erase the proms. Takes about 10 minutes and then you can write to the prom.

    Also, if you are having timing issues, you might want to make sure that the initial timing is the same on the engine as in the BIN you are using.

    Thanks for the Heads up. I'll keep this in mind when I get to that point.
