If I remember correctly your existing motor is running the ZZ4 cam. I'm curious what you don't like about it. The XR258HR has a little less exhaust duration, but is otherwise pretty similar. If you're interested in saving a few bucks you could also have your ZZ4 cam reground. I recently dropped my stock Vortec cam at Delta Cams in Tacoma, WA. They're grinding it with the LTI lobes on the stock 111 LSA for my 1995 K1500. If you call there ask for Scott. You could use the money you save to buy an Ostrich emulator from Moates. Will make tuning via email possible vs. sending chips through the mail.

Also, what single plane manifold are you running?

the zz4 cam has an operating range that is too high for a tow rig. it is not making power low enough and requires me to run the revs out to 5500 when towing to be able to do things like merge into the eway. the zz4 cam is a 2-6k cam were the comp is a 0-5k.

it is a pos pro products. its a copy of a victor jr iirc.

My $.02 is that you can change the cam, but you are not really going to increase your torque for towing. That requires a gear change. I have had 4 different cams in the Express van from the 191/196 @ .050 factory L31 cam, to the 203/210 @ .050 LT4 on a 115* LSA, to a comp 206/210 @ .050 on a 110* LSA to a 215/220 @ .050 on a 114 LSA. To be quite frank, NONE of them changed the towing power. When I am towing heavy I still have to run up to 5,000 rpm to merge in with traffic. It really doesn't help much that I have a 4L80E and only 3.73s. 0-70 is one hard shift later. The only way for me to get better torque would be to slap in some 4.56 gears which I am doing soon by swapping in a 10.5" 14-bolt full floater.
