    454ss tuning

okay, so I don't have years of experience under the hood but ive been doing my own work and learning as I go.
I bought a 90 454ss truck all original bout a year ago. so far ive done.

4l80e tranny swap with harness, computer, vss buffer, instrument cluster, drive shaft all from a 93ss doner
    headers/ straight duals w series 40 flowmasters/ pre heated 3 wire 02 sensor
    complete over haul
    edelbrock cam 2162
    taylor 8.2mm spark plugs
    180 thermostat
AFPR @13 psi with Holly high flow external fuel pump
    stock injectors/tbi
stock intake and cast iron heads. ( plan on getting all aluminum top end later)
    new water pump/timing chain....
    3.73 gear ratio

anyway trucks a beast compared to how it ran....before mods.

i still felt like it needed to be tuned for better performance so I order chip from jet performance for a 93ss with 4l80e and 3.73 gears. when I installed it seemed like it helped but tranny would not shift gears. called jet performance and they said that the bammy on my computer was from an older vehicle and that it was not going to work?? so I shipped it back and now im looking for a different alternative.

    any suggestions?

What are the 4 letters on the blue memcal under the cover in the computer you have from the 1993 donor. (BAMY?) Also which PCM came out of the 1993 truck? Last 4 numbers of the service number... Is it a 7060 or one of these (8625, 6395, 7427, 6390)

BAMY memcal is for a 7060 PCM

If it was a stock 93 454SS it would have had a 16147060 PCM and BAMY cal from the factory.

I would look into modifying the firmware yourself , there is a learning curve , but not anything that can't be accomplished , the APU1 from Moates is a complete setup to datalog , emulate and burn chips all in one package . That and a laptop is a good way to get started.

There is a lot left on the table with a stock PCM and calibration. You will wake up even a stock truck with a good tune.

If you want an upgrade , consider a swap to the 94-95 16197427 PCM .

I was thinking, the 7427..would I just swap pcm? is it compatable with vss buffer/4L80e I have now?

also I have a question about my 4l80e swap I did, I changed out harness, ecm, buffer tranny and instrument cluster. every thing works fine but my rpm guage. it jumps. and never gives an accurate reading. its all over the place. any suggestions??? also I noticed theres a plug in at the coil but no wire off harness.

You will need to repin the harness to run the '7427 , 1 wire needs to be added from the new PCM to the VSSB as the 7060 did not have it in the harness when you swap . 4L80E will be fine , you will need to run a $OE calibration. You will need a V8 Memcal to piggyback to the calibration you intend to run, preferably from a 454/4L80E equipped truck as it would be a good baseline to start with. I have a stock '7427 454SS calibration as well as a few modified ones , best bet would be to compile your own though as every engine is different. I also have a '7060 to '7427 pin crossover chart that a few have used when swapping .

I cant answer the cluster question , the tach and speedo in my '92 has not been correct ever since I have owned it . The RPM and Speedo reads correct in the datalog , just the dash display is incorrect . Dunno , never really concerned me I suppose.
