    LQ4 to LY6 swap

im a bit out of date with newer engines.

a friend at work has an LQ4 ('05) truck with no engine, and an LY6 ('08) with no truck to go around it.

he has it all mounted and wired up according to the best he could figure with alldata diagrams. the fuel pump is spinnin', but no inj. pulse.

i haven't been out there to look yet, because it's quite a drive away, but first question is, does the LY6 have any kind of vats-like security crap? what else needs to be done for a 'standalone' swap so it'll just run?

He would likely be better off running it as an LQ4. Keep the truck thinking nothing has changed. There may be some LQ4 sensors needed to make it work, but I can't say for sure off hand.

The LY6 PCM will need to programmed to the truck so that the injectors will actually work, if that's even possible. The electrical systems are very different between '04 and '08, and the PASSLOK system was also changed between those years.
The man who says something is impossible, is usually interrupted by the man doing it.

so you can't just run an LY6 ecm standalone?

i was under the impression that the reluctor wheel was different; but im not sure what'd be necessary to swap to the LQ4 sensor either.

i guess i'll just go have a look at it.

You could buy a lingenfelter 58 to 24x adapter and 4 to 3 bolt TB adapter and the engine would be pretty much a bolt in using the 05 truck harness and TB. The e38 computer for the ly6 can be used standalone, but would truly be standalone. e38 pcm is CAN communication and the o5 truck is P59 VPW communication. No way to make pcm talk to gauges or anything else in the 05 truck. Buy the 2 adapters and run stock pcm, easy.

Alternatively you can strip the crank out and change the reluctor and replace the cam timing gear with a 2005 ls2 gto gear, still need TB adapter.

And yes, has antitheft system that you will need HPT or EFI to disable.
