    TBI : 350 injectors vs 454 injectors

    Greetings,

So I pulled a TBI 454 at the wrecking yard recently from a 1995 GMC 3500 1-ton van. It was mostly complete. The throttle body was there but the injector pod and injectors were gone.

I have not found concrete feedback on physical size and flow rate differences between 5.7 and 7.4 TBI injectors. I have read that the '94 - 95 454's ran a higher 29-32psi fuel pressure and higher flowing injectors that 87-93 454's.

I am looking at injector pods on ebay and there is one up that states it's for a 96 G-body 1-ton van. I asked the seller of it was for a big block and he said "no, but all you have to do is drill out the injector pod mounting screws to a bigger size" and he says that 350 injectors and 454 injectors are exactly the same and that the big blocks just use a higher fuel pressure for better flow. This contradicts what I've read elsewhere, whereas there are supposedly 55lph and 65lph injectors for 350's and 75lph and 90lph injectors (or in that ballpark) for 454's.

Can anyone confirm wether or not the fuel injector pod and injectors for 454's are in fact different from 350 units so I can buy the right parts to complete this TBI setup properly.

the pods are the same with the exception of the spring for the regulator on a few. There are many different injectors.

The 94-95 TBI 454 engines ran a high pressure version of the 4.3s 46# injector for something like 74 lb/hr. The pods are the same provided you have a light duty TBI and not a HD TBI unit.

I have the early 454 injectors (p/n 5235231, 80 #/hr) in the injector pod from my small block TB feeding a 383. I even have the injector pod from the 454 TB and it is identical.

I recently found there is a difference in some pods. I have an early 454 pod, it has a smaller locating pin on it, to fit the small hole in the actual throttle body, the 5.7 units I have all have a large pin and will not work in my early style 454 throttle body, but I do not see any issues using the 454 pod on a 5.7 throttle body as it will still be pretty centered by the bolts alone. I attached pictures, you can see the difference.
