    Tomorrow is the day

I'm going to order tuning hardware tomorrow. I will be programming chips for a 16197427 PCM, it is in a 1995 K1500 with a 1996 5.7 Vortec motor in it, current modifications are an adjustable FPR, aftermarket coil, and open element air filter. I am under the impression that I need a G1 adapter, a Burn2, and a few chips. I have a dedicated laptop running TunerPro and an ALDL cable. Am I missing anything?

You may want to get a ZIF socket to make chip swapping easier.

S2 or S4 socket? Looks like they would both work

    I hadn't even seen the kit! So I reckon a kit and a burn2.

I received my new toys in the mail today, I installed the G1 and then programmed my first chip. It runs!!!! but not well, in fact it moves much easier in reverse and barely moves forward. it free revs okay, except a hiccup around 1500 rpms. So, anxious to do more than just put it in gear and rev it up a few times, I started datalogging.... except, now I can connect to a vehicle. Also I seem to have forgotten how to turn on the data display in RT because all I get is a blank bar. I changed my COM setting to COM3 and it recognizes the cable, but wont connect to the truck...... frustration.

It would probably help if I mentioned that the truck is a 1995 K1500 with a 1996 Vortec engine, it has 65 lb/hr injectors, and is currently running 14 psi.

I ran into an issue similar to this as well but I am a complete newbie so there will be guys with much better suggestions I'm sure to help you. Open up the definition file at the top and go to edit definition. When you open that page you should have an option to open the dashboard and make sure your definition file has a gauges and information programmed into it for you to have values to see. Also a good idea to take a look at the history table and make sure it has been filled out with a table to monitor blm values in. My first definition file I used had neither programmed in so I had to create them. Am I understanding the question right that you don't have an area to log data or you aren't connecting to the ECM at all?

Also make sure your definition file is loaded or you won't be able to connect and won't have a dash display

That almost sounds like limp home mode. Is the check engine light on? I know if it is in limp home mode you can not connect to it, timing defaults to 0, and the trans I think defaults to like 2nd gear only or something like that.
Double check you have the chip installed correctly. Pin 1 faces the outside of the ecm body, away from the zif handle. Also make sure the chip addressing is correct. I always verify the chip after I burn it also.

The chip notch faces the latch handle in the BURN 2, Yet faces away from the latch handle in the ZIF/Memcal adapter.

I figured out what happened I think, I an issue with my ADX which I resolved. The other turned out to be a broken with in my ALDL cable. I'll repair this issue tonight, hopefully this evening I can get some dataloggin going. As far as limp mode goes, I'm not sure, I know the chip is installed correctly in the G1, but I cant remember which orientation I used in the BURN2. I'll have to wait until after work to check any of this out, work has this funny way of interrupting my fun, yet I cant seem to afford any fun without it.

Well folks, I ran into a snag a few weeks ago. Ended up replacing the timing chain and re-sealing the cover. That being said, I now have a brand new cable and a datlog to go with it! I still can't establish decent idle, but it seems healthier overall.
