    Ford 1.9 Valve Seat

I figured I'd share a project I've been working on while I learn to tune my 95 K1500. I was able to purchase a 95 Ford Escort for $60, it had engine noise. I was told that it was more than likely a shattered valve seat, which these 1.9 SOHC engines are famous for. I pulled the engine apart to find #3 valve seat gone, piston damaged, head ruined. After a reman updated head, new piston, rings, rod bearings, and a lot of cleaning carbon out of things, I got it going. I have about $500 in it total, using all good parts. No cheap stuff, speed pro pistons, rings, bearings. I honed all the cylinders and installed all new rings. So far the car has been averaging about 28MPG running around town and back and forth to work a few times, all back roads. I put close to 400 miles on it, so overall I feel I got a great deal. So here are some of the pictures of the carnage and the rebuild.

It's always nice getting something cheap and being able to fix it yourself and get a good vehicle for cheap.
I had a simillar experiance with my 99 grand cherokee. I got it for a song with a bad miss. The engine had run hot from a busted rad hose. I ended up having to replace the #1 piston, rehone the bore, and had the head rebuilt. Been driving it ever since.
