    Cool Hello

    Hello All

Been reading many of the posts here and just signed up. I Built a RWD conversion project using a TPI motor. I had rebuilt the motor as a 383 and used a carb for simplicity as I debugged the suspension, brakes and other issues. This site helped convince me to get the TPI back on the motor. I have restored / modified the TPI setup and over the winter, I will be installing back on the 383. I know I will have issues with the tuning and will probably asking for some advice..

    Cheers

I think the using the 1227730, Speed Density / MAP Sensor 1990 ~ 1992 TPI computer is a good plan.

    Thanks dave w,

When I purchased the 89' TPI motor, It didn't come with a harness or ECM. I bought a basic harness and will be using the 7730 ECM and will be going the 90~92 SD setup - thanks. I've purchased a NOS 91' Vette PROM and Ryan @ Sinister Performance will be arranging the Initial programming and after start up tuning. Also installed installed Tuner Pro RT in my laptop. My first rodeo with EFI. I have lots of patience but feeling a bit nervous about the existing cam and being able to get a decent idle. With the carb I was not able to get more than 12" of vacuum....

idle is the least of your worries

if anything will force an acceptable idle from a cam that doesn't make much vacuum, that ecm will... keep in mind that the fuel injection isn't the only key to smoothing idle out, computer controlled timing advance is big too.

the technique is similar to a carb and standard distributor, just push more timing, rpm, and fuel at it until you find maximum vacuum. then you can back it off a bit to get a cleaner burn or try to find a sweet spot or whatever.

i bet you'll find that the engine will want quite a bit more timing at idle than you could achieve with the ordinary distributor, and will end up pulling more vacuum than you think, but dont expect miracles.

    Hello All,

My apologies for not updating sooner. I have installed the TPI and had it running since spring of 2015. With the exception of the idle, the car drives quite well. The idle is quite temperamental. Cold starts are way too rich, rough and inconsistent. Hot idle staggers a bit. hot idle vacuum fluctuates between 12 & 13''. Hot restarts are good but not great. No vacuum leaks. HEI, cap, rotor and wires are new. 33 lb Injectors have been removed cleaned and flow matched. Compression and leak down tested the cylinders. put back a fresh set of plugs. Still no change. During a cold start, the IAC was always pegged open, so I have adjusted out the TB until the IAC counts are close to 5 -10 at hot idle. Now the IAC doesn't bottom out during the cold starts and now cold idle is not so close to a stall anymore. From a ton of reading I've done lately, I believe the problem may lie with the overlap on the cam. It may be contaminating the exhaust and the 02 is picking up on the extra oxygen, ECM thinks the idle is lean and just keeps adding more fuel. Does anyone know if there is any adjustments to the 7730 that can compensate for this ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks

If you can post a TunerPro RT data log, I can use the Log File Analyzer to see what adjustments can be done, See attached.

    Hi Dave W,

I did not data record the last two start-ups or road trips. I will get you a fresh data log. See what time I get home tonight. Would you like more than just the cold start-up and hot idle?

Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated

    Cheers,

I was not able to see data using log file analyzer from the posted (.csv) .zip file. I was successful with log file analyzer using TunerPro RT to export the posted .xdl (hot idle) file to a .csv file. See attached.

How does one go about moving a tread from the introductions to a more appropriate area ?

I'll use my Super Moderator privilege to move some of the posts in this tread into a new tread titled Log File Analyzer?
