Looks like a remote thermostat setup. Would be interesting trying to get it in a truck.

Not sure if the pictures are misleading, or is that thing huge! It looks so tall in the pics, you would have to cut a hole in the hood to clear it. I too noticed the lack of a t-stat housing, not sure how that would work.
