    Working on MPG

I am posting my log and bin from today. Wanted to see if you guys have any further suggestions on increasing the MPG through the tune. I seem to be averaging around 14mpg (if the hack in my bin that gives the MPG is fairly accurate). Maybe I am tapped out considering what I am driving....a heavy 87 v-10 with 31x10.5x15's 3:08 gears and 400 tranny

is your engine a 8100? what type fuel are you running,48 degrezz timming in your data log seams like a lot but I have only messed with 4.3 s in your bin it shows max spark advance of 41.? so it may be my adl file showing the timming at 48 degrezz. my 4.3 always got better mpg with the egr employed . like I said I have only tuned 4.3 s. if you reemploy the egr decreased added hyway spark down to 1.1 degrezz and get you a data log to check for knock counts. if you have a 10 cylinder 14 mph is not bad, one of my friends has a v10 dodge it gets 14-16 on the hyway but it is a stock truck tires ,tune, every thing is stock. hyway lean cruise seam to work ok you get a long data log and you can tell more of what might be changed for more mpgs. I would start by reemploying the egr, remove the hlc patch and data log to see what the blms are.

    Ony V-10 is a 1987 chevy 1/2 ton 4x4 model designation.
I have a V-10 350 with 3.73 gears, 700R4 and 30" tires no lift and average about that, although I think I can get it back to around 18 highway using lean cruise (I was running really lean when I got that MPG)
    Square body stepsides forever!!!

I am not sure why you would be seeing that much timing. I am around 36 at cruise....at least I think

I do see when the Hiway Lean kicked in toward the end of the log...the ECM went into open loop, the BLM locked and the timing went from 36 to 39 degrees..which is in line with the 3 degrees that is added in with the hi-way lean engaged.

I have a v5,2 adx on a 32 bit windows7 it shows about 10 degrezz more timming than my 64 bit does, sow what you are seeing is proble correct. I was looking at your bin with tuner cat when it calls for the egr it changes bpw from 135 to 123 that is how my 4.3 bin works.

I have all EGR functions turned off through a patch in the bin and the EGR has been removed from my engine. Should the BPW (base pulse width? ) change like that or is that an issue

yes that's the way gm set them up. if you have the egr patch applied it wont call for the egr so it shouldn't change.

if you are going to run the hlc I would add 1 more degree of timming at 50 an 60 kpa in the hyway spark table, check for knock counts and adjust the blms as close as you can to 128 + or - 2.

    AFR settings in Hi-way show:
    16.10
    16.10
    16.10
    15.90
    15.60
    15.50
    15.40
    15.40
    15.40
When I try to adjust this to lean it out more then it shows up indeterminate data. If I reapply the patch the numbers change to:
    3.40
    0.70
    18.20
    21.00
    16.80
    21.40
    0.80
    4.30
    0.80
Crazy huh??? If I set them back to the factory settings everything is fine but I try to adjust anything in this section it screws everything up and I have to start over.

when you change the table are you pushing commit change? I don't know how lean is safe eagle mark said that afr is safe that is in the table.

Yes...and when I commit it kicks the hiway patch out and it reads indeterminate data.

Im sure what is "safe" varies based on heads, compression, efficiency, etc... I was just going to do a little here and there just to see what it would do since I am maxed out on timing at 40 degrees. 36degrees + 4 degrees in hiway. Im at 14 mpg but I feel I am still running a little richer at cruise. Maybe I need to work on it from the VE table?

When I apply the patch the numbers go back to the original settings. It's like the numbers are locked and if you try to change them it throws some crazy numbers.
