Carb & Points old skool now I need to learn EFI

Hi everyone I've lurked about site for a few months now. Like the title says I'am a Carb & Points old skool guy. Appears to be a good friendly site and probably the most educated short of the factory in EFI systems. I've got a 72' Chevelle with a 95 LT1 supposedly one of the 9C1 types. Before sticking a 454 in the car I'd like to give the LT1 a chance to show me what it has to offer. Right now I'm cleaning up a wire harness for the car as the old harness had a bunch of cut links that were just left hanging. When we first got the car it drove fine with the exception of when you buried the throttle it would just puke and backfire unless you pressed throttle very slowly as in taking a long time to get to desired speed. Drove it about an hour at 75mph on the freeway steady with no problem, jump to 80 and just wanted to die this even happens driving slow. I first thought gas pressure, so I hooked up my gauge and pressure was good 40-46psi key on and would drop to 37-39 during idle. I have tried to get a code reading as the SES light is on all the time but cannot get a code as scanner says it cannot communicate. The OBD is one of those V 1.5 95-96 change overs. I'll be posting about this problem in the right forum thread but just figured I'd say Hi and give a heads up about the problem I have right now.

    Thanks
    John
