    Too big of a fuel pump?

    So my gas tank is leaking when full and it seems it might be the lock ring that holds the fuel pump bucket in place. While I'm at it I feel like swapping the fuel pump since it's got over 190,000miles on it and I'm planning on starting to modify the engine. I got two Aeromotive 340 stealth pumps and I might use one with an external regulator cause it's rated for 340lph at a maximum of 90psi.

    there's no such thing as too much pump, more just too much noise and amperage draw.

    actually if you're trying to run low pressure and your return line is too small, i guess its possible to have too much pump.

    I was gonna run new wire from the pump to the relay so I'm good there, I guess I'll have to check the return line size.

    I wouldn't think it's much of a concern if your return line is the same size and length without any extra restrictions. You won't have more fuel returning from the regulator than you're pumping to it.

    the pipe itself is a restriction..... if you could put a pressure guage immediately after the regulator on a 2" section of return line and then a 20 foot return line, you would see more pressure on the 20 foot line than the 2" with the only difference between pipe length.

    how much pressure is going to be wildly dependant on more than a few things. if you REALLY go nuts on pump flow, the regulator won't be able to open far enough at lower flow periods and feed pressure will rise from that alone.

    Would I need to bypass the factory regulator or can I piggy back on it. Let the aftermarket pump flow at 25-30psi then let the stock regulator adjust to 18?

    As long as the return line can handle the overflow it will be fine.
