i get that part, but.... how do you tell the start and end of the fixed length data packet?
there's no flow control, header, or footer i can see?
and there's no checksum?
just wait for the delays in between the packets?
It just gives me data I need, never tried to figure out the rest?

well i've never seen a 160 baud datastream.
lets say you have a unidirectional 160 baud datastream, a really short one.
spec is 3 byte message length, byte 1 RPM, byte 2 MAP, byte three is 8 error bits.
example packet with car off and no codes is going to be like 00 FE 00.. car running with an error, 92 42 04
you start your datalogger with car running, you get a datastream like 42 04 92 42 04 92 42 04 92 42 04 ...
how do you know which byte is the start of the datastream? (in this case it's a few bytes in)
or, is it more like (what i'd assume), 42 04 (pause) 92 42 04 (pause) 92 42 04 (pause) 92 42 04 and you use the pauses for synchronization?
i'm trying to at least start porting my datalogging software to ol' aldl before i get a cable going
by the way mark that $4D ADX in the thread is really nice! it doesn't even need a tuneup; just going to do some linking of data and leave 'er alone, it'll go very well with the xdf when it's finished
i think im done for a while, i really went hard at it.
i hope someone else actually ends up tuning $4D someday
mark can you post this now im pretty much done here.
not much is missing

Steveo, I feel your pain on the HP loss with the auto, truth be known Im a row-your-own kinda guy myself. I was merely testing the water to see if you would be willing to participate in the slushbox boogey. :)

If it don't fit force it, if it don't force fit f&%@ it!
by that quote i actually meant this car needs a million little things fixed. today i spent hours rebuilding the trunk lock cyl, stripping the a/c crap out of it, trying to figure why the fuel gauge is inop, rewiring stuff, re-plumbing cooling, etc etc
and after all that it threw a code 32. i hate egr fails.
anyway, you're right. i really do need to pop a valve cover and see what's in there. for all i know its a rebuilt lo3.
mark i saw you posted that bin, here's a few more.
i corrected a few more things in that xdf too, 1.6 is pretty current. you can post it up and rename it without -steveo.xdf at the end if you want
That is the 1.6 re-titled the way we do all of them here, also did the credits and thanks you's on the XDF description page. I'll add the extra bins...
