Got my hands on a LT1

So as luck would have it I just got my hands on a 1995 F-car LT1 long block. Allegidly it ran??? Shop put a 1996 LT1 into the car. Had a complete harness and PCM for a 1996 LT1 automatic. I am planning to rebuild the LT1 to a 353 or 355. As for the harness I plan to convert it back to a 1994-1995 OBD1 PCM. The 1996 engine had a set of F-car long tubes with it. Engine will either be going into a 1987 Monte Carlo SS or my 1980 Corvette and in either case will have a TH400 or TH200-4R behind it. I have a 1993 Throttle body and bracket in my spare parts collection to hook the TV cable up. Its going to get either the 215/220 @ .050 on 114* LSA Comp cam that is in my Express or a 218/228 @ .050 on 112* LSA Lunati cam.

    Now the questions.......

Obviously I need to find wiring diagrams to convert the harness to basically 6 wire input which Power, Constant Power, A/C input, SES light output, VSS input, Brake switch

A.) Not sure if I can control a torque converter clutch without an E-Trans
B.) Will the 1994-1995 PCM control a 4L80E without adding a relay and resistors? I swapped a LT1 Impala SS to one years ago and it had to have a relay and I never liked it much.
C.) Would I be better off going with a 1993 PCM and running Speed Density (I know those controlled the 4L60 non E lockup)
D.) Anybody have acess to wiring diagrams to help me setup the harness.

i might be able to figure how to turn the automatic code off entirely but still get lockup control for you; that would be ideal?

If I use the TH200-4R that would be the ideal method.

I plan to avoid the 4L60E/700r4 like the plague.

I know you know the LT1 pretty well Steveo....Are the speed density 93 ECMs worth messing with. I had a 7730 running my TPI setup and it ran really nice on MAP Speed Density.

My brother suggested that I should redrill the ported Edelbrock TPI base I have and run my siamesed SLP runners and ported plenum on it. Then I could get a 1996 timing cover and run an 0411 on it using L31 electronics. Advantage being no optispark.

nah i'd stick with ee maf - sequential injection, flash memory, plus you get to use/test the tools i work on...

last one i helped with, we ran manual bin and used an external lockup controller..

I kinda figured you would say that. I have a Moates AutoProm with the ALDL cable that IIRC can flash an OBD1 LT1.

Thats what I thought I remembered....I think I even used WinFlash on a LT1 F-car years back to put a stock manual calibration in place of an auto calibration.

Not sure what tearing it open will reveal, but it turns over smoothly. Allegidly it runs and had oil in the coolant but no coolant in the oil......Doesn't make much sense to me. Didn't see it myself, so it maybe ATF in the oil and nothing to do with the engine. So I just bit my tongue. The last L31 with "blown headgaskets" I got from this shop for core value was actually a very clean .020 over rebuild with bad intake gaskets. I slapped a set of TBI heads on it and a TPI unit on top. It is getting dropped into my boat next winter to replace the Quadrajet fed 3.7 that is getting tired.

IIRC you will need provisions for the 3/4 switch, and TCC using the 2004R

Thats if I don't use a simple vacuum/rpm window switch to control it. My old non computer q-jet fed 305 in my G20 van used a vacuum switch connected to ported vacuum through a thermal vacuum switch to lock the transmission in 2nd and 3rd gears and a N.O. 4th gear switch that locked the converter regardless of vacuum in 4th.

So I did some looking and ordered a few parts. I recently had the 1980 Corvette on the rack and noticed that someone along the way had patched the original fuel tank with something that looked like hardened jelly beans. So I ordered a new tank and a new sending unit for a 1982 L83 Crossfire and a 1994 CPI Astro van pump. I will fit it all together and route a new fuel line to the engine compartment. To replace the fuel line requires the body be seperated from the frame. Frame is likely going to be sandblasted and powdercoated. All suspension and body bushings, springs and brake lines will be replaced. Still debating swapping the original steering equipment for a rack & pinon setup. A simple engine swap has become a complete retrofication.

I found a very clean looking C3 swap to a LT1. This car is without A/C which will actually present me a challenge of my own.
