Hi Dave, I'm new also, and trying to make sense out of the wiring harness I pulled out of an '89 Silverado. I was confused before I ordered the factory wiring diagrams. Don't know how to eliminate the wires I don't need without being sorry later. I would like to do it myself, but am thinking I will order a harness and simplify my life. Verle
One wire at a time! It's a time consuming tedious task but many have done it. Have to plan in where the incoming fuses and relays go... one wire at a time...

The attached pictures, .pdf files are for 1987, the 1989 will be identical. The attached picture shows the connector positions also. You can ignore the diesel schematics at the bottom of the drawing.
The challenge with a factory harness, is some of the chassis wiring is mixed in with the TBI harness. Depending on how clean and organized you want the factory harness to look, building a new harness can actually take less time.
