    Newbie here

    Hi yall!
Im new here, I have acquired a '97 Trans Am WS6 M6 car. The last owner wasn't so kind to it, but Im slowly sorting out the bugs with it. Supposedly the motor was rebuilt not too long ago, it looks and sounds like it. It supposedly was tuned, and has a mild cam in it. Sounds and acts like the LT1 Hot Cam on a stock tune. I pulled the tune off it yesterday and it looks like a completely stock tune to me. Im trying to get familiar with this OBDII car, thats how I found this site. Anyone recommend someone that can create a tune for this car with unknown engine internals?

    Thanks!

i've done the same thing you're doing! good ol' mystery cars.

there are LOTS of good tune by mail guys out there... but nobody in their right mind will do it with unknown internals.

you can, however, rough out cam lift and duration with a dial gauge if you just pull a valve cover and have at it.

i ended up pulling the motor apart anyways, to confirm what the previous owner 'thought' was in there.

best solution would be to just tune it yourself. why dont you do some datalogs and play around?

you obviously have some tuning software, what do you have?

just a mild cam like that doesn't actually need a lot of tuning, just a few tweaks to timing more than anything, and messing with idle to get it right...

    Steveo,
Ive got JET DST and Ive got a copy of ScanXL that allows me to datalog. Ive used ScanXL for a long time, so Im pretty familiar with its capabilities. Im still learning my way around the Jet DST software. Theres some strange stuff on the car, the last owner did nothing but beat the crap out of it. Whoever had it before him did some goofy things. There were 3 different brands of spark plugs and wires. Temp sensor was not connected. 02 sensor had wires ripped out... It was running in limp mode. It sounds like it has a cam, it does not idle like a stock LT1. It has shorty headers, egr delete, no cats, K&N filter in the factory ram air box. The MAF and TB was filthy. Just giving it a tuneup and getting the 02 sensor hooked up made it come alive. It acts like it wants to die at idle, like the idle is too low, but its hitting the factory 700 rpm. So I gotta work on that. After the tune up it has random misfires and hiccups at mid rpms. Ive gotta do some datalogging and figure out whats going on.
